East Centre (Ward 18) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. [2] On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. [3] For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, but four members were still returned.
Located in the east of Glasgow, the core of the ward since 2007 includes Carntyne, Cranhill and Riddrie, with the northern boundary being the M8 motorway). The 2017 changes were substantial: the Dennistoun, Milnbank and Haghill neighbourhoods in the west of the original territory were removed and assigned to a new Dennistoun ward, whereas the neighbourhoods of Barlanark, Budhill, Greenfield, Lightburn and Springboig were added to East Centre from the Baillieston ward. The southern boundary is the North Clyde Line railway.

Glasgow City Council is the local government authority for the City of Glasgow, Scotland. It was created in 1996 under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, largely with the boundaries of the post-1975 City of Glasgow district of the Strathclyde region.
Elections to Glasgow City Council were held on 3 May 2007, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections and the Scottish Parliament general election. The election was the first one using 21 new wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, each ward elected three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation. The new wards replaced 79 single-member wards which used the plurality system of election. It also saw the election of Glasgow's first councillors for the Scottish Green Party and for Solidarity.

For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward decreased in size and population, was re-named Victoria Park and returned three members.
