Erbium(III) selenate is an inorganic compound, with the chemical formula Er2(SeO4)3. It exists as an anhydrate or an octahydrate.

Preparation and properties

Monoclinic erbium(III) selenate octahydrate can be crystallized from the solution when dissolving erbium oxide in selenic acid: [1]

Er2O3 + 3 H2SeO4 + 5 H2O → Er2(SeO4)3·8H2O

Erbium(III) selenate octahydrate is first dehydrated by heating to obtain the anhydrous form, and then heated continuously to obtain erbium selenite and finally erbium(III) oxide. [1] [2]

It can crystallize with M2SeO4 in aqueous solution to form double salts, such as K3Er(SeO4)3·nH2O [3] and NH4Er(SeO4)2·3H2O, [4] etc.

Langbeinites are a family of crystalline substances based on the structure of langbeinite with general formula M2M'2(SO4)3, where M is a large univalent cation, and M' is a small divalent cation. The sulfate group, SO2−4, can be substituted by other tetrahedral anions with a double negative charge such as tetrafluoroberyllate, selenate, chromate, molybdate, or tungstates. Zirconium selenate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Zr(SeO4)2. Its tetrahydrate can be obtained by the reaction of selenic acid and a saturated aqueous solution of zirconium oxychloride octahydrate (or zirconium hydroxide). The tetrahydrate belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system and is isostructural with Zr(SO4)2·4H2O. It loses water when heated and becomes anhydrous at 220-230 °C. It reacts with potassium fluoride to obtain K2Zr(SeO4)2F2·3H2O.

Cerium(III) selenate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ce2(SeO4)3. It can be obtained by reacting selenic acid and cerium(III) carbonate, and the solvent is evaporated to precipitate crystals. The double salt CsCe(SeO4)2·4H2O can be obtained from mixing cerium(III) selenate and cesium selenate in an aqueous solution, and then evaporating and crystallizing the solution.

Caesium selanate is an inorganic compound, with the chemical formula of Cs2SeO4. It can form colourless crystals of the orthorhombic crystal system.
