Datuk Ewon Ebin (born 26 June 1954) is a Malaysian politician who served as the Minister of Science,Technology,and Innovation and represented Ranau as the Member of Parliament of Malaysia from 2013 to 2018.
He is the former Vice President of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO),a political party in the state of Sabah,which he was one of the founders in 1994. He left UPKO in February 2020,citing that the party leadership had derailed from its original objectives and failed to protect the welfare of its members,the indigenous Sabahans and other Malaysians from Sabah. His resignation leads 5,000 UPKO members to quit the party,including committee members from the Ranau division.
In March 2020,Datuk Ewon Ebin declared that he will be joining Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) under the leadership of former federal minister Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Anifah Aman.
He is very interested in the problems of natives in Sabah. [1] His thesis at the University of Malaya 1978 was 'A Ranau Dusun Traditional Law Study in Sabah on Marriage,Divorce and Heritage' was one of his contribution.
Ewon was born and raised in Bundu Tuhan,Ranau which was a village located at the foot of the tallest mountain in South East Asia,Mount Kinabalu. He is married to the late Datin Danna Obidan Untol (14 November 1956 –9 September 2023) and the couple are blessed with six children and has a Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) conferred by the University of Malaya. After graduation,he became a lawyer and opened a law firm known as Tetuan Vitales Ewon &Co,in Kota Kinabalu. In 1979,Datuk Ewon was appointed as a First Class Magistrate after being admitted into the Sabah Bar,which he served for more than five years.
Datuk Ewon held several government positions. Between 1985 and 2001,he served in different state government GLCs,namely as the Chairman of Sabah Rubber Fund Board,Chairman of Permodalan Bumiputra Sabah,Director of Sabah Bank and Deputy Chairman of the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO).
Datuk Ewon's political career began to shine when he was at the age of 31. He won the Sabah State Legislative Assembly for N.13 Kundasang in the year 1985 under Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS),which he held the position for almost 15 years.
From 2004 to 2013,he became the first Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly for N.31 Paginatan through United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation. UPKO is another political party in Sabah,which he founded together with Tan Sri Bernard Dompok and other former leaders from Parti Bersatu Sabah.

In 2004,Datuk Ewon was appointed by the Chief Minister of Sabah,Musa Aman as Minister of Industrial Development. After serving the position for a term in 2008,he was assigned to another portfolio as the Minister of Rural Development until the 2013 General Election.
In the 2013 general election,Datuk Ewon was elected to the federal Parliament for the seat of P.179 Ranau in the state of Sabah. In his first term in parliament,he was selected to become one of the Prime Minister's Cabinet Minister. He served as the Minister of Science,Technology,and Innovation of Malaysia.
On 17 December 2021,he resigned as Vice-President and member of PCS along with many of its leaders,resulting in mass resignations. He stated that the party was disorganised and inactive.
On 11 January 2009,Sabah Rural Development Minister,Ewon reminded the JKKK about the tactics of illegal immigrants using a fake identity card to steal the aid of the native hardcore poor. Through home visits,the relevant parties can check the actual level of the applicant's poverty thus ensuring that their documents are valid or otherwise.
On 30 April 2010,Ewon as Sabah Rural Development Minister was present at the Sabah Sejahtera Award at Kampung Mansiang Community Development Center,Menggatal. Also present were Assistant Minister of Resources Development and Information Technology Development,Jainab Ahmad and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development,Ghulam Jelani. The winner is Kampung Tanjung Bulat,Kinabatangan - the state-level Sabah Sejahtera Award winner. Entilibon Village,Tongod (runner up) and Kampung Babagon Penampang (third). All winners receive prizes in the form of a project grant of RM50,000 for the champion,RM40,000 (runner-up) and RM30,000 (third). [2]
Since 1985,Ewon has been contesting in the Sabah election in Kundasang. In 1985 Ewon won with a majority of 939 votes. In the 1999 Election,Ewon was opposed by Ramdi Indang (Allied);Karim Bin Adam (PBS) and Benjimin Yasin (Setia). Kundasang's jurisdiction had 11,539 votes.
The previous State Assembly is known as Ranau and has 8639 voters. Ewon (BN/UPKO) 3,224,Janimin Saliun (Independent) 1,673;Ramli Indang (Independent) - 937;Henry Wan Kauting (Setia) 76 and Nayon Gudumi (Independent) - 69. [3]
In the next election,Ewon (PBS) received 4956 votes;Kasitah Gaddam (BN) gets 4,017 votes. [4]
In the 2008 election,Ewon (BN) received 5206 votes;Jahumin Ampadong (BERSEKUTU) 157;Paul Kerangkas (PKR) 1,749 votes and Mat Jaili Samat (Independent) 90 votes. After the victory,he was appointed Sabah's Minister of Rural Development.

Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan is a Malaysian politician who served as the 7th Chief Minister of Sabah from April 1985 to March 1994 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Keningau from August 1986 to May 2018. He is founding President of the United Sabah Party (PBS) and brother of Jeffrey Kitingan,the Deputy Chief Minister II and State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Sabah and President of Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR) as well as uncle of Maximus Ongkili,the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak affairs and President of PBS. He is the longest MP in Sabah.
Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie bin Apdal is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Semporna since April 1995,State Leader of the Opposition of Sabah since September 2020 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Senallang since May 2018. He served as the 15th Chief Minister and the State Minister of Finance of Sabah from May 2018 to September 2020,Minister of Rural and Regional Development from April 2009 to July 2015 and Vice-President of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO),a component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He has served as the 1st and founding President of Heritage Party (WARISAN) since October 2016. He lost the power as Chief Minister of Sabah following the defeat of his coalition WARISAN + in the 2020 state election.
Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Gapari Kitingan(born 22 October 1948,also known as DDJK or DSPDJK since 2021) is Malaysian politician who has served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah I since January 2023 and State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Sabah for the second term since September 2020. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah II from October 2020 to his promotion in January 2023 and the first term in the position in May 2018. In January 2023,he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister I of Sabah succeeding Bung Mokhtar,who was dropped due to a political crisis. At the federal level,he served as the Deputy Minister of Tourism,Arts and Culture from March 2020 to his resignation in September 2020 and Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government from August 1994 to May 1995. He has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Keningau since May 2018,Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Tambunan since May 2018 and Bingkor from May 2013 to May 2018. He has served and been founding President of the Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR),a component party of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and a former component party of the federal and state ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition,since July 2016.
Sabah People's United Front or in Malay Parti Bersatu Rakyat Jelata Sabah is more commonly known by its abbreviation BERJAYA,was a political party based in the state of Sabah,Malaysia. BERJAYA was formed by former United Sabah National Organisation (USNO) secretary-general Harris Salleh who was later joined by Fuad Stephens,who served as the first Chief Minister of Sabah as well as president of the United Pasokmomogun Kadazan Organisation (UPKO). Stephens became the fifth Chief Minister after BERJAYA won the 1976 state election in April but died in June the same year,being succeeded by Salleh. The party had been a partner of Barisan Nasional (BN),the then ruling coalition of Malaysia since its inception on 15 July 1975.

Datuk Siringan bin Gubat was a Malaysian politician. He is the Minister for Resource Development and Information Technology in the state government of Sabah,and represents the seat of Paginatan in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly. From 2008 to 2013 he was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Ranau constituency. He is a member of the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) party in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Kurup was a Malaysian politician who served as 1st and founding President of the Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS),a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition from March 1994 to January 2023,Minister in the Prime Minister's Department,Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in the BN administration under former Prime Ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak from March 2008 to May 2018. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pensiangan from March 2008 to May 2018. He also served as Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah,State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries,State Minister of Communications and Works,State Minister of Finance,State Minister of Industrial Development,State Minister of Resource Development and Enterprise and State Minister of Youth and Sports of Sabah under former Chief Ministers Joseph Pairin Kitingan,Sakaran Dandai,Salleh Said Keruak,Yong Teck Lee,Bernard Giluk Dompok,Osu Sukam,Chong Kah Kiat and Musa Aman in the BN state administration from 1985 to 2004. He was a founding member of the PBRS and was a member of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS). He was also the father of Arthur Joseph Kurup,the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security,Pensiangan MP and PBRS President. Kurup died in Kuala Lumpur on 17 April 2024,at the age of 79.
Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tuaran from November 1999 to March 2008 and again since May 2013. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister and State Minister of Trade and Industry of Sabah in the Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN) state administration from May 2018 to the collapse of the WARISAN administration in September 2020,Minister of Science,Technology and Innovation from July 2015 to May 2018. He is a member of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO),a component party of the PH coalition. He has served as the Honorary President of UPKO since January 2023,2nd President of UPKO from March 2014 to January 2023,when he served in the official capacity from September 2018 to January 2023 and acting capacity from March 2014 following the resignation of Bernard Giluk Dompok to his official assumption of UPKO presidency in September 2018.

Datuk Jonathan bin Yasin is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ranau since May 2018. He served as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs II for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Hamzah Zainuddin from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Hamzah from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021. He is a direct member of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. He joined the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU),a component party of the PN coalition after resigning from the People's Justice Party (PKR),a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. He later resigned from BERSATU but remained in GRS as direct member.
The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation is a multiracial political party based in Sabah,Malaysia. The party was rebranded from its previous party's name,United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation using the same UPKO acronym;which was a widely known Kadazan-Dusun-Murut based party in 2019. The party had earlier been renamed once before in 1999 from its initial 1994 formation name of Sabah Democratic Party. In August 2021,UPKO has officially joined the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition as a component party.
The 2020 Sabah state election took place on 26 September 2020 to elect all 73 elected members of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly. The previous Assembly was dissolved on 30 July 2020.

Ellron Alfred Angin is a Malaysian politician who has been the State Minister of Rural Development briefly in 2018 and currently the incumbent State Minister of Youth and Sports since 2020. Ewon Benedick is a Malaysian politician who has served as Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development in the Anwar Ibrahim Cabinet since December 2022,the Member of Parliament (MP) for Penampang since November 2022 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kadamaian since May 2018. He served as State Minister of Rural Development of Sabah in the Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN) administration under former Chief Minister Shafie Apdal from May 2018 to the collapse of the WARISAN state administration in September 2020. He is a member of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO),a component party of the PH coalition. He has served as the 3rd President of UPKO since January 2023. He was also Vice President of UPKO before his promotion to the party presidency in January 2023. He is one of the two UPKO MPs and sole UPKO MLA. He was set to officially take over Wilfred Madius Tangau as the 3rd UPKO president after the UPKO party election in the party triennial delegates convention on 16 October 2022. However on 10 October 2022,the 14th Parliament was dissolved and the 2022 general election was to be held on 19 November 2022,the convention was delayed to 15 January 2023.
James bin Ratib is a Malaysian politician who served as Sugut N.48 Division Chief of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN) and also an official member of Sugut Division of GRS-GAGASAN. He is also a politician who has served as the State Minister of Community Development and People's Wellbeing of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor since January 2023 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sugut since May 2013. He served as the State Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Sabah in the GRS state administration under Hajiji and Minister Jeffrey Kitingan from October 2020 to his promotion to full ministership of a different portfolio in January 2023. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN),a major component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition and was formerly a member of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO).
Bobbey Ah Fang Suan is a Malaysian politician currently serving in his second term as a Senator. This term was first coined in during the 1994 Sabah state elections after United Sabah Party losing its majority even the party won the state elections. Despite its usage nationwide,it is more familiar within the state of Sabah. Since May 25,2023,nine (9) states of Malaysia has approved the Parties hopping prevention law also known as the "Anti-Switching Parties Law" or "Anti-Hopping Parties Law" for both Parliament and State legislative assembly including Sabah and Sarawak.
