Garzas is a rural barrio in the municipality of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1,337. [3] [4] [5]
Near the Garzas River is Salto Ataúd, a tiered waterfall on the Río Las Vacas in Garzas, located at GPS coordinates 18°09′14″N66°44′26″W / 18.15385°N 66.74065°W and can be accessed from PR-522. [6]
Garzas was in Spain's gazetteers [7] until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Garzas barrio was 1,425. [8]
