This is a glossary of terminology used in kabaddi.

A

All out

An 'all out' occurs when all seven defenders have been declared out, with an 'all in' then occurring with all seven defenders returning to the court. By PKL rules, two bonus points are scored by the raiding team for an 'all out'. [a] [1]

Center

The center is the defender who stands in the middle of the defensive formation, when it has seven players lined up from side of the field to the other. [2]

Corner

The corners are the two defenders who stand nearest to the corners of the field. [2]

Cover

The covers are the two defenders who stand next to the corner defenders. [2]

D

Dash

A dash is executed when a defender runs at and pushes a raider towards the periphery of the field, aiming to score a point by forcing the raider out-of-bounds. [3]

Do-or-Die raid

After two consecutive empty raids, the third raid is deemed a 'do-or-die raid'; if the do-or-die raid also ends up as an empty raid, then the defending team scores a point and the raider is out. [4]

Dubki

The dubki is a move executed by a raider in which the raider ducks low and dives underneath and through the legs of defender(s) who are between the raider and the midline, and then runs past the midline. [5] [6]

E

Empty raid

An empty raid is a raid where no points are scored. [4]

G

Golden raid

A type of tiebreaker in which the baulk line is treated as equivalent to the bonus line. [4] [7]

In

The ins are the two defenders who stand next to the center defender. [2]

L

Lobby

The lobby areas are extensions of the court on either side of the field perpendicular to the midline. They are only considered part of the field during each raid once the raider has made contact with a defender. [4]

Pro Kabaddi League

The Indian Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is the biggest kabaddi league in the world. It introduced several rule changes and innovations to the sport. [8]

Raid

An instance of the offensive team sending a raider into the defensive team's half of the field.

Raider

The designated player on the offensive team whose goal is to enter the other team's half of the field, tag some defenders, and then return safely.

S

Struggle

A struggle is initiated during each raid when contact is first made between the raider and a defender, with the lobbies then becoming part of the field. [1]

T

Tag

A tag occurs when a raider uses any part of his body to touch any part of a defender's body.

Technical point

A technical point is scored by a team when an opponent steps out of the court before making contact with a player on the first team. [9]

Kabaddi is a contact team sport played between two teams of seven players, originating in ancient India. The goal of the game is for a single offensive player, called the "raider," to enter the opposing team's half of the court, tag as many players as possible, and return to their own side within 30 seconds, all while avoiding being tackled by the defenders. Points are scored for each player tagged by the raider, while the opposing team earns a point for stopping the raider. Players are taken out of the game if they are touched or tackled, but return to the game after each point scored by their team from a tag or tackle.

Kabaddi, is a contact sport, native to the Indian subcontinent. It is one of the most popular sports in India, played mainly among village people. India has taken part in four Asian Games in kabaddi, and won gold in all.

Pro Kabaddi League, also known as PKL, is an Indian professional Kabaddi league for men. It premiered in 2014 and airs on Star Sports. It is the most popular kabaddi league in the world and the second most watched sports league in India after the Indian Premier League. Haryana Steelers are the current champions.

Patna Pirates (PTP) is a professional kabaddi team based in Patna, Bihar, that plays in the Pro Kabaddi League. The team is led by Shubham Shinde and coached by Narender Redu. Their home ground is the Patliputra Sports Complex. The Pirates are the most successful team in PKL history with a record of winning 3 out of 8 titles and winning all of them in successive. They are also one time runners up in season 8 of pkl which started after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deepak Ram Niwas Hooda is an Indian professional Kabaddi player and the former captain of India national kabaddi team. He was part of the Indian team which won gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games. He has also featured in all the seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League. Deepak is regarded as one of the best all rounder in the Pro Kabaddi League history.

Rahul Chaudhari is an Indian Kabaddi player, who has played as a defender and later became a magnificent raider. He was the first player ever to score 500, 700 and 800 raid points in Pro Kabaddi League. He was a member of the Indian National Kabaddi team that won a gold medal in the 2016 South Asian Games. After six seasons with Telugu Titans and one season for Tamil Thalaivas, Rahul also played for Jaipur Pink Panthers before retiring from PKL in 2024.

Pardeep Narwal is an Indian international kabaddi player who currently plays for the Bengaluru Bulls in the Pro Kabaddi League and also the Indian national team. Widely regarded as the greatest raider in kabaddi history, he led the Patna Pirates to three straight titles and holds a multitude of the league's raiding records.

Fazel Atrachali is an Iranian kabaddi player who currently plays for Bengal Warriors in the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League and the Iran National kabaddi team.

Tamil Thalaivas is an Indian professional kabaddi franchise based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The team competes in the Pro Kabaddi League and was added as one of the four additional franchises when the league was expanded in 2017. The team plays its home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai and is owned by Magnum Sports.

Gujarat Giants, formerly Gujarat Fortune Giants, is a professional Kabaddi team based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, competing in the Pro Kabaddi League. Owned by the sports arm of the Adani Group, Adani Sportsline, Gujarat Giants joined the league in 2017. The team, currently led by Iranian defender Fazel Atrachali and coached by Ram Mehar Singh, plays home matches at The Arena by TransStadia. They made it to the finals in their first two seasons, in 2017 and 2018, finishing as runners-up both times. Despite a strong come-back, they were eliminated in the playoffs of PKL Season X by Haryana Steelers in the Eliminator.

Maninder Singh is an Indian professional Kabaddi player who plays for the India national kabaddi Team. He is the captain and lead raider of Bengal Warriors In the Pro Kabaddi League. Maninder is regarded as one of the best raiders in the league. He led Bengal Warriors to their maiden PKL trophy in 2019.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pawan Sehrawat</span> Indian Kabaddi Player

Pawan Sehrawat is an Indian kabaddi player. He plays for Telugu Titans in the Pro Kabaddi League and represents the Reserve Bank of India. He was the most expensive player in the history of the league when Tamil Thalaivas picked him for ₹ 2.26 crores for the ninth season. He was bought by the Telugu Titans for Rs 2.60 crore for the tenth season, again becoming the most expensive player of the league.

R. Sriram Is an Indian professional kabaddi player. He is the raider in the Puneri Paltan Kabadi team, he has played for UM(U Mumba) and DD team.

Naveen Kumar Goyat is an Indian professional kabaddi player who plays for the Indian national kabaddi team and Dabang Delhi KC in the Pro Kabaddi League. His speedy raiding and consistency makes him one of the best raiders in the league. He was part of the Indian Kabaddi team that won the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games. India defeated Iran 33-29 in a controversial final.

KBD Juniors is an Indian kabaddi competition for school children organised by Star Sports, the broadcast partner for Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). Three annual seasons have been held so far, starting in 2017.

Arjun Deshwal is an Indian professional Kabaddi player who plays as a raider in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) for Jaipur Pink Panthers. He is known as a "Raid Machine" in the league for his aggressive raiding technique. He was part of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Gangzhou, China.

Kabaddi is a contact sport of South Asian origin which has many variations.

Mohammad Reza Shadloui Chianeh is an Iranian kabaddi player who plays as an allrounder in the positions of defense and offense for Iran in international matches and for Haryana Steelers in the Indian Pro Kabaddi League. He rose to prominence as a reliable defender, especially in the Pro Kabaddi League, within a few seasons, as he racked up as many as 177 tackle points from just 45 matches in the PKL.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pro Kabaddi League: Melbourne Raid</span> 2024 sporting event in Australia

The Pro Kabaddi League: Melbourne Raid was an event hosted by the Pro Kabaddi League in association with the Victoria State Government that featured two Kabaddi exhibition matches. The Event was held on 28 December 2024 at the John Cain Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The Event featured two Kabaddi All Star matches, with the first match being against the PKL All Star Mavericks and the PKL All Star Masters, and the second match being against the Pro Kabaddi All Stars and the Aussie Raiders. The Event was announced on 11 November 2024, after Premier of Victoria Jacinta Allan visited India with the promise of bringing a Pro Kabaddi event to Melbourne.
