Government Aizawl North College is an educational institution located in Ramhlun Venglai, the northern part of Aizawl, Mizoram. The college is affiliated with Mizoram University [1] As of 2014, it has 1120 students. [2] The college's principal is Prof. S. Haukhanlian Mate. [3] The College at present has 1,309 students, 28 teachers and 12 non-teaching staff. [4]

History

Government Aizawl North College was established in 1988 with recognition by the government of Mizoram as a pre-university institution, and was authorised to grant degrees in 1990. It is now under the management of the Higher and Technical Education Department and since 1 July 2006 has been a full degree-granting affiliate of Mizoram University. [5] It was recognised by UGC on 27 September 2007 and received a grade of B+ from the NAAC in 2009. [5]

Students also elect one male and one female peer educator, in addition to the vice president and general secretary of the Students’ Union and all class representatives, who are traditionally appointed as peer educators.

By order of the principal, a Women Development Cell was formed on 1 September 2014 to examine and cater to the needs of women students, including prevention of gender discrimination and sexual harassment.

Government Champhai College

The Government Champhai College is a government university college associated with Mizoram University, located in Champhai, Mizoram, in India. Established as a private college in 1971 by the philanthropists of Champhai town and neighboring villages, the founders' objective was providing collegiate education to the students of this remote hilly tribal town near the international border of India with Myanmar.

Mizoram Presbyterian ChurchSynod is the largest Christian denomination in Mizoram, northeast India. It was a direct progeny of the Calvinistic Methodist Church in Wales. It was the first church in Mizoram and is now one of the constituent bodies of a larger denomination Presbyterian Church of India (PCI), which has its headquarters in Shillong, Meghalaya. The administrative body called the Mizoram Synod has its headquarters at Mission Veng, Aizawl. As the first church, it remains the largest denomination in Mizoram.

Government Aizawl West College is an educational institution located in Dawrpui Vengthar, Aizawl, Mizoram. It is currently affiliated with Mizoram University.

Aizawl Theological College

Aizawl Theological College is an ecumenical seminary of the Presbyterian Church in Aizawl, Mizoram, India. It is affiliated to the Senate of Serampore College (University). The college is owned by the Mizoram Presbyterian Church and administered by the Mizoram Synod through its Theological Education Board. Hundreds of pastors and church leaders have received their academic training and ministerial formation under the standards laid down by the Senate of Serampore College since its inception in 1907.

Education in Mizoram

Education in Mizoram consists of a diverse array of formal education systems ranging from elementary to university, from training institution to technical courses. The Government of India imposes mandatory education at least up to the basic level. For this public schools are made free of fees, and provided with free textbooks and school lunch.

Lunglei Government College is the biggest college in the town of Lunglei, Mizoram. It is graded B++ by NAAC. Talks are underway now with UGC to set up Mizoram University campus in Lunglei Government College campus, thus making it a constituent college of Mizoram University like Pachhunga University College. The College has 807 students and 61 Faculty.

Government Hnahthial College is the only institute of higher education in Hnahthial, Hnahthial district of Mizoram, Northeast India. It was established in 1979 in Hnahthial. It became a government college under the Government of Mizoram in 1981. Under governmental organisation of Mizoram, it operates as a branch of the Mizoram College Teachers' Association.

Sângthankima is a humanitarian and social worker in Mizoram, India. He is the founder of Thutak Nunpuitu Team (TNT), a voluntary organisation, which runs the largest charitable institution in Mizoram. His institution, a registered society since 1991 under the Firms and Societies in India, started as a rehabilitation society for alcoholics in Champhai town. With donation of a plot of land in Aizawl city, it expanded into an orphanage with formal school, health centre, and sanatorium. In addition to more than a dozen of awards for his social service, Sangthankima has received an honorary doctorate (D.H.L.) from Rangoon's Methodist Bible College in 2008, Achievers Award 2013 For NGO, Mother Teresa Awards for Social Justice in 2014, and the Mizo Award of 2014.

Government Kolasib College

Government Kolasib College is an undergraduate college of Mizoram state in India located at Kolasib. It is a coeducation institute governed by the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, Education & Human Resources Department, Government of Mizoram. It is affiliated to the Mizoram University, a central university under University Grants Commission of India. Established in 1978, it is nationally recognised under 2(f) and 12-B of the U.G.C. Aizawl Capital in Mizoram, India

Aizawl is the capital of the state of Mizoram in India. Aizawl was officially established on 25 February 1890. With a population of 293,416, it is the largest city in the state. It is also the centre of administration containing all the important government offices, state assembly house and civil secretariat. The population of Aizawl strongly reflects the different communities of the ethnic Mizo people.
