Hamlet is an upcoming American drama film based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet . It was directed by Aneil Karia and written by Michael Lesslie, and stars Riz Ahmed, Morfydd Clark and Joe Alwyn. Ahmed is also a producer on the film.

In October 2017, it was announced that a film adaptation of Hamlet was in the works from a screenplay by Mike Lesslie with Riz Ahmed starring. Netflix was in negotiations to finance and distribute. [2] The film would languish in development hell until May 2022, when it was reported that Aneil Karia would direct the film; Ahmed was still set to star as well as produce. Morfydd Clark was cast as Ophelia and Joe Alwyn as her brother Laertes. [3]

Principal photography took place in London, England from November 8 to December 21, 2023. [4] [5] In January 2024, Focus Features acquired international distribution rights to the film. [6] [7]
