Holy Sepulchre Cemetery is a Catholic cemetery owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia and located in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania. [1] It has a Philadelphia mailing address, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, [2] but the grounds are in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County. It was established in 1894 and is managed by StonMor Partners. [1]

Contents

The cemetery contains a large bronze statue of Christ created by J. Otto Schweizer in 1949. The statue depicts Christ with his hands raised in a blessing and is named "Benediction". [3]

John Brenden "Jack" Kelly Jr., also known as Kell Kelly, was an American athlete, an accomplished rower, a four-time Olympian, and an Olympic medal winner. He was the son of triple Olympic gold medal winner Jack Kelly Sr., and the elder brother of the actress and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly. In 1947, Kelly was awarded the James E. Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the United States. He served a brief tenure as president of the United States Olympic Committee.

Stanwood Fulton Baumgartner was an American Major League Baseball pitcher who became a longtime sportswriter in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born in Houston and raised in Chicago, Baumgartner played for the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League from 1914 to 1916 and from 1921 through early 1922. Then he played for Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics of the American League from 1924 to 1926. Frank Joseph "Lefty" Hoerst was a Major League Baseball pitcher. He pitched all or part of five seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies. He made his MLB debut in 1940, pitching in six games with the Phillies while spending most of the season with the minor league Pensacola Pilots. Hoerst played the entire 1941 and 1942 seasons in the majors before serving with the Navy during World War II. Hoerst returned to pitch for the Phillies in 1946. He then spent most of the 1947 season back in the minors with the Memphis Chickasaws, pitching in just four major league games. After spending all of 1948 with Memphis, Hoerst's professional career was over.
