Free-to-air (FTA) services are television (TV) and radio services broadcast in unencrypted form, allowing any person with the appropriate receiving equipment to receive the signal and view or listen to the content without requiring a subscription, other ongoing cost, or one-off fee. In the traditional sense, this is carried on terrestrial radio signals and received with an antenna.

Sputnik or MDR Sputnik is a youth-oriented German radio station, and is part of Leipzig-based public broadcaster Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR), based in Halle. The station, which primarily broadcasts pop and rock music, is the successor to the East German youth station DT64, founded in 1964 on the occasion of the Deutschlandtreffen der Jugend. It was given its present name on 1 May 1993, following German reunification in 1990; the new name, inspired by the Soviet Sputnik satellite, was the suggestion of the then Minister-President of Saxony, Kurt Biedenkopf.
YOU FM is one of the radio networks owned and operated by Hessischer Rundfunk, the public broadcaster for the German state of Hesse. Originally operating under the name hr XXL, the network featured the popular show XXL Clubnights which highlighted the night club scene in Hesse. In January 2004, the network was renamed YOU FM, partially in an attempt to divest itself of its old "techno station" image.

Astra Digital Radio (ADR) was a system used by SES for digital radio transmissions on the early Astra satellites, using the audio subcarrier frequencies of analogue television channels. It was introduced in 1995. As of February 2008, there were still 51 stations transmitting in this format. ADR ceased on 30 April 2012 when analogue broadcasts on Astra 19.2°E ended.

hr1 is the first radio station of the Hessischer Rundfunk.
The Biedenkopf transmitter is a transmission tower owned by the Hessischer Rundfunk. It is located on the 673 meters (2,208 ft) high Sackpfeife mountain near the city of Biedenkopf in Hesse, just a few meters away from the border to North Rhine-Westphalia. It is used for radio and formerly TV broadcasting.

hr2-kultur is a German, public radio station owned and operated by the Hessischer Rundfunk (HR). It airs a cultural format with a high percentage of spoken word and classical music. Hr2 took over some news formats from hr1 after its transition into an oldies format.
Antenne Brandenburg is a German, public radio station owned and operated by the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) for the state of Brandenburg. It plays an adult contemporary format with a focus on 70s and 80s music and regional news. It launched on 5 May 1990 and was formerly produced by Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB) until May 2003.
ERF Medien e. V. is a German evangelical media corporation, based in Wetzlar, Hesse. The Corporation is producing Radio- and TV as well as online content with Christian-evangelical messages. The organization was founded in 1959 as Evangeliums-Rundfunk (ERF). Theologically, ERF Medien is close to the Evangelical Alliance in Germany. ERF is partner of Trans World Radio.
