Hunyuan County is a county under the administration of Datong City,in the northeast of Shanxi province,China.
During the Spring and Autumn Period of Chinese history,present-day Hunyuan County formed part of the Baidi state of Dai [1] [2] to the north of the Zhou Kingdom. It was conquered by the Zhao clan of Jin.
Under the Han,Guo County was established and placed under Yanmen Commandery and Pingshu County was established and placed under Dai Commandery. [3] Pingshu was later merged with Guo County,which was placed in Hengshan Commandery. During the Jianwu Era of the Eastern Han,Guo County was renamed. During the Three Kingdoms,Wei restored the name Guo. This was changed to Guoshan County by the Northern Wei,who placed it under the administration of Si Prefecture. [3] Under the Tang,it was placed in Yun Prefecture. [3]

The 1,500-year-old Hanging Temple is an important and unique structure within the Datong area.
In 2010 the population of the district was 343,486 inhabitants.
Datong is a prefecture-level city in northern Shanxi Province in the People's Republic of China. It is located in the Datong Basin at an elevation of 1,040 metres (3,410 ft) and borders Inner Mongolia to the north and west and Hebei to the east. As of the 2020 census,it had a population of 3,105,591 of whom 1,790,452 lived in the built-up area made of the 2 out 4 urban districts of Pingcheng and Yungang as Yunzhou and Xinrong are not conurbated yet.
Yuncheng is the southernmost prefecture-level city in Shanxi province,People's Republic of China. It borders Linfen and Jincheng municipalities to the north and east,and Henan and Shaanxi (Weinan) provinces to the east,south and west,respectively. As of the 2020 census,its population was 4,774,508 inhabitants,of whom 928,334 lived in the built-up area made of Yanhu District. One can note than Pinglu County,205,080 inhabitants in the south,is now part of Sanmenxia built-up area.
