The Indian Coast Guard Academy will be a military training institute for Indian Coast Guard personnel, which is currently[ when? ] under construction in Mangalore, Karnataka . [1]
Indian Coast Guard personnel were historically trained at the Indian Naval Academy (INA). Following the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the Indian government initiated a program to triple its coast guard's force, assets and infrastructure. Both the Navy and the government recognized that the increased intake cadets would further tax already-stretched navy facilities. This provided an added impetus for the Union Council of Ministers to approve the establishment of the academy in 2009.
The search for a site for the academy started in earnest in 2010. Various sites were considered, with the primary criterion being ample space on the coastal waterfront. The Government of Kerala was keen to host the site in the state. Consequently, the Minister for Industries and Commerce of Kerala prevailed upon the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation to transfer some of its unutilized land in the coastal town of Azhikkal to the coast guard for the academy. The transfer was completed on 24 February 2011. On 27 February, the then Defence Minister of India, A. K. Antony, announced the plans to start construction. [2] [3] The foundation stone was laid on 28 May 2011. [4] The academy was planned on a 160 acres (0.65 km2) campus near Valapattanam estuary on the Arabian Sea in Irinavu near Azhikkal in the Kannur district of northern Kerala. about 8 miles (13 km) south of the Naval Academy in Ezhimala. The two maritime academies were expected to share some training infrastructure in the Kerala backwaters. But the project was dropped in 2019 following the denial of environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone clearances by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change because the project site fell within an area where no construction is permissible. The academy was then shifted to Kenjar near Mangalore. 160 acres of land in possession of the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board has been allocated to build the academy. [6]
A coast guard or coastguard is a maritime security organization of a particular country. The term embraces wide range of responsibilities in different countries, from being a heavily armed military force with customs and security duties to being a volunteer organization tasked with search and rescue without law enforcement authority. In most countries, a typical coast guard's functions are distinct from those of the navy and the transit police, while in certain countries they have similarities to both.

It was started on 1 February 1977 and formally established on 18 August 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India. It operates under the Ministry of Defence.
Dakshina Kannada district is located in the state of Karnataka in India, with its headquarters in the coastal city of Mangalore. INS Kadamba or Naval Base Karwar or Project Seabird is an Indian Navy base located near Karwar in Karnataka. The first phase of construction of the base, code-named Project Seabird, was completed in 2005 and the base was commissioned on 31 May 2005. Development of Phase II commenced in 2011. INS Kadamba is currently the third largest Indian naval base, and is expected to become the largest naval base in the eastern hemisphere after completion of expansion Phase IIB. The construction of Naval Base covers an area of 11,169 acres in Phase I.

It is a part of a conspicuous and isolated cluster of hills, forming a promontory, 38 km (24 mi) north of Kannur (Cannanore). The Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala is Asia's largest, and the world's third-largest, naval academy.

Future savings may be negatively impacted by a growth in an aging population in South Indian states, as the aging population will require more money for healthcare expenses. However, this will not severely impact state domestic product as India's overall population is also expected to decline. Today, South India has about 20% of India's population, and contributes about 31% of India's GDP; it is projected to contribute 35% by 2030.

The Indian Naval Academy is the defence service training establishment for officer cadre of the Indian Naval Service and the Indian Coast Guard, located in Ezhimala, Kannur district, Kerala. Situated between Ezhimala hill and the Kavvayi backwaters, INA has a 7 kilometre beach front on the Laccadive Sea. It conducts basic training for all officers inducted into the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. It is Asia's largest, and the world's third-largest, naval academy.
INS Sindhudhvaj (S56) was a Sindhughosh-class submarine of the Indian Navy in service from 1987 until 16 July 2022, when she was decommissioned.
The Sagar Prahari Bal (SPB), is a unit of the Indian Navy, formed in March 2009, which is entrusted with the responsibility of patrolling India's coastal waters. The force consists of 2,000 personnel and is equipped with 80 patrol boats. The force was constituted after the Mumbai terror attacks and the main duty of the force is to guard against such terrorist attacks by patrolling the coastline and also to conduct search and rescue operations. The soldiers are trained at INS Shivaji, a naval training and engineering base, near Lonavla.

New Mangalore Port or New Mangalore Port Trust(NMPT) is an all-weather port at Panambur, Mangalore in Karnataka state in India. The total land area of the port is approximately 480 hectares (1,200 acres). The New Mangalore Port is the deepest inner harbour on the west coast. It is the only major port of Karnataka and the seventh largest port in India. It is operated by New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA).
