Iran competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. 86 competitors, 82 men and 4 women, took part in 50 events in 9 sports. [1] Moslem Eskandar-Filabi was the flagbearer for Iran in the opening ceremony. [2] This would be the last Olympics Iran would take part in until the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, due to the Iran Civil Unrests two years later and the eventual outbreak of the Iran–Iraq War.

Iran competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. The nation has competed at every Summer Olympic games, since its official debut in 1948 with the exception of the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics. The National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran sent a total of 38 athletes, 37 men and 1 woman, to compete in 10 sports. Half-lightweight judoka Arash Miresmaeili, who later forfeited his first match against Israel's Ehud Vaks for medical reasons, was the nation's flag bearer in the opening ceremony.

The trap competition at the 1976 Summer Olympics was held on 18–20 July in Montreal, Canada. There were 44 competitors from 29 nations, with each nation limited to two shooters. The event was won by Donald Haldeman of the United States, the nation's first victory in the trap since back-to-back wins in 1912 and 1920. The three total victories tied the United States with Italy for most among nations at the time, though Italy would win the next two and the United States has not win again since. In this Games, Ubaldesco Baldi of Italy took bronze. Silver went to Armando Marques of Portugal, that nation's first medal in the trap.

The 1976 Summer Olympics torch relay celebrated the first time that a Canadian city had hosted the Games. Convention states that the flame should be lit at Olympia in Greece and then transported to Athens, making its way onwards to the host city. On this occasion a signal was sent via satellite to transmit the flame to Ottawa where it would then make its way to the 1976 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Montreal and a second ceremony in Kingston, Ontario.
