Like other Davis box sets, the included material is taken from a wider chronology of sessions than the dates which actually produced the titular album. The Complete On the Corner Sessions compiles material from 1972 through 1975 which, due to lineup changes Davis made throughout the era, features over two dozen musicians.

It compiled music Davis recorded in studio sessions with his quintet in 1967 and 1968, including outtakes from his 1968 album Nefertiti and recordings that foreshadowed his direction on In a Silent Way (1969), while covering styles such as jazz fusion and post-bop. Water Babies was released by Columbia Records in 1976 after Davis had (temporarily) retired.

Live at the Lighthouse is a live album by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan, released on the Blue Note label in 1971. The album features a quintet of Morgan, Bennie Maupin, Harold Mabern, Jymie Merritt, and Mickey Roker, recorded at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, California in July 1970. Originally released as a double LP comprising four side-long recordings, the 1996 CD reissue expanded the track list with over one-hundred minutes of additional material from the Lighthouse gigs. In 2021, Blue Note released an 8-CD/12-LP box set featuring the complete recordings of Morgan's three-night stint to commemorate the original album's fiftieth anniversary.

The Complete "Is" Sessions is a 2002 Blue Note Records compilation album by Chick Corea of material recorded in May of 1969. The material from the "Is" sessions was released originally on two separate albums on two different record labels. The songs "Is", "This", "Jamala" and "It" were issued as Is on Solid State Records in 1969, whilst the remaining songs were released as Sundance on the Groove Merchant label in 1972. The 2002 Blue Note double CD package also includes alternate takes from the original recording sessions.
Chick Corea Featuring Lionel Hampton is an album first released in 1980 by American jazz pianist Chick Corea. The album contains three songs from 1971 additionally featuring Dave Holland on bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums, Hubert Laws on flute and Woody Shaw on trumpet., but apparently not vibraphonist Lionel Hampton. There is a fourth song, recorded in a different environment from Lionel Hampton with a different trio, not including Chick Corea. So actually there is no song where Chick and Lionel play together.
Directions is a compilation album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released in 1981 by Columbia Records. It collects previously unreleased outtakes that Davis recorded between 1960 and 1970. Directions was the last of a series of compilation albums—mostly consisting of, at that time, previously unreleased music—that Columbia released to bridge Davis' recording hiatus that ended with the Man with the Horn in July 1981.
Inner Space is a compilation album of Chick Corea music released by Atlantic Records in 1973. The album contains all four tracks from Corea's 1968 debut album, Tones for Joan's Bones as well as two previously unreleased tracks from the same recording sessions and two tracks originally released on Hubert Laws' 1969 LP Laws' Cause.
Song of Songs is the second album led by trumpeter Woody Shaw which was recorded in 1972 and released on the Contemporary label.
