JHR Developments is a motor racing team based in Dronfield, Derbyshire, in the United Kingdom. The team was founded in 1995, to enter Jamie Hunter in the UK and European Formula Renault series. [1]

Contents

It currently participates in the F4 British Championship and GB3 Championship. [2]

In addition the team's current participations, in the past the team was active in many British racing series including the Ginetta Juniors, Ginetta Supercup, Renault Clio Cup, MGF Cup, Porsche Supercup, Formula Renault 2.0 UK, Britcar, and the Seat Cupra Championship, amongst others.

Notable past drivers for the team include Sennan Fielding, Deagen Fairclough, Billy Monger, James Hedley, Abbi Pulling, Matthew Rees, Joseph Loake and John Bennett.

History

The team was founded in 1995 as Jamie Hunter Racing to support Jamie Hunter’s entry in the Formula Renault Eurocup (then Eurocup Formula Renault) and Formula Renault 2.0 UK. [3] [4] The founder, Jamie Hunter (born 16 February 1972), participated in the 2001 Porsche Supercup season, but he died on 3 July 2001 after a road traffic accident. [4] [5] After Jamie Hunter’s death, his younger brother, Steven Hunter (current team principal) continued to run the team and renamed the team as JHR, which stands for the team’s initial name. [3] [4] Because the team’s focus is driver development, the team began using the current name, JHR Developments, at an unknown date.

The team has claimed to win all series the team participated in. [4]

Single-seater racing

Formula 4

Initially, after the team’s foundation, the team participated in two Formula Renault series: Eurocup Formula Renault and Formula Renault 2.0 UK. [3] Twenty years later, in 2015, the team began competed in Formula 4, initially the British championship and continued to participate in this championship so far. During the participation, the team won all available championships in 2021: Driver, team and rookie.

The team also competed in the 2022 season in two non-British F4 championships in 2022: UAE (full-time entry) and Spanish (part-time entry), but failed to score any points.

GB3 Championship

In November 2018, it was announced that the team would compete in GB3 Championship (then BRDC British Formula 3 Championship) from 2019 season. [3] However, the team did not compete in any round in 2019 season. [6] Their debut occurred in 2020 for a part-time basis with two cars. The team did not compete in 2021 season, although the team was named as one of the participated teams. [7] [8]

Sports car racing

From 2006 to 2014, the team participated in Renault Clio Cup United Kingdom (now Clio Cup Great Britain), a one-make, entry-level sports car series.

In May 2010, the team entered the 2010 British GT Championship for the two Knockhill races in the GTC class. Using the Jamie Hunter Racing (the original team name) banner, the team fielded a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup with the British duo Steven Hunter and Derek Pierce in the driver’s seats and secured one victory in the class as the only car competing in GTC class in this round (8th in overall) along with a DNF (did not finish). [9] The team did not do any further rounds in the 2010 British GT season and the team’s two drivers, Hunter and Pierce, finished 3rd in GTC class.

The team also competed in sports car racing championships organized by Ginetta. In 2017, the team was suspended from competing in these championships as the team was under investigation because of engine irregularities. [3] [10]
