Jasmine Kaur Sandlas (born September 4, 1985) is an American playback singer, television personality, performer, songwriter who mainly sings Punjabi songs. [1] [3] [4] Sandlas was born in Jalandhar, India and raised in Stockton, California always aspired to pursue a career in singing. Sandlas' first song was "Muskan" (2008) became a hit. In 2014, she began her Bollywood playback singing career with the song "Yaar Na Miley" for the film Kick. Upon its release, "Yaar Na Miley" went viral and topped the charts and Sandlas received wide critical acclaim for her singing style as well as earned several awards, including "Most popular song of year 2016 – PTC Punjabi Film Awards" and Screen Award for Best Female Playback. She is known as the "queen of Punjabi music industry" among her fans due to her unique style of singing. She was also featured on the TEDx Talks, MTV Coke Studio and Spoken Word platforms. [5]
Jasmine Kaur Sandlas was born in 1985 in Jalandhar, Punjab, India, to a Punjabi Sikh Labana family. [1] [6] Her mother put her on stage to sing at an early age. During her school days she participated in many song competitions and then that was the time when she got influenced by many Punjabi folk singers. At the age of 12 or 13, she with her family, migrated to California where she was inspired by the West Coast music. [7] She was only 16 when she began writing songs. [8] [9]
Her first song, 'Muskan', [10] from the album 'The Diamond', written by Lalie Gill was great success worldwide. [11] In 2012, she did an album 'Gulabi' with rapper Bohemia. [7] After the launch of "Gulabi" album, she started receiving recognition from the mainstream Punjabi music industry. In 2015, Jasmine Sandlas was out with single Punjab De Javak. Jasmine's career began with underground album 'The Diamond' in 2008. Her Bollywood playback singing career began with Kick , for which she did the song called "Devil-Yaar Naa Miley" with Yo Yo Honey Singh. [12]
In 2012, the Gulabi album was launched by Sony Music Company.
In 2014, she debuted in Bollywood as a playback singer in movie Kick alongside Yo Yo Honey Singh. [13]
Jasmine has given two singles "Ishq Da Sutta" and "Raat Jashan Di" for the movies One Night Stand and Zorawar , respectively.
Jasmine is also part of the TV series on women-empowerment called Angels of Rock, [14] [15] by MTV India. Jasmine along with three other artists biked from Mumbai to the Atarri border (travelling through Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP, Punjab along the way), covering places in rural as well as urban India. Along the way, they met some inspiring women who have scripted their own success stories in varied fields and are using their voice to speak up and discuss issues that urgently need attention. Each episode will also end with a special song. The first episode of season 1, aired on 31 July 2016.
In 2020, her third album What's in a Name was launched on Sandlas's own YouTube channel. The album was produced by Intense and Hark. The illustration was designed by Diksha and animation is done by VFX kalakaar. [16]
TGME was an experiment that Jasmine Sandlas started to observe if her predictions, about what kind of music people like, were right or wrong. It consisted of 9 songs. First Song "Gaana challe ya na" was released on 8 March 2021 whereas last song "Dil Tutteya" was released on 10 February 2022.[ citation needed ]
Jasmine Sandlas released an EP called "Tini" on her birthday that included 4 songs: “Yakeen”, “Kehnda Hi Nahi”, “Hava Vich” and “Kehri Gali.” [17]
Sandlas released a single called "Jee Jeha Karda" on 7 November. [18]
Jasmine's first project of the year was called "Jehri ve" which also had Gippy Grewal's vocals in it. The track was from the movie "mitraan da naa chalda" and came out on 30 January.
“Ittar", written by Jaani, was released on March 7. B praak composed the music.
Jasmine was inducted into the Women Songwriter's Hall of Fame for her impact on the music industry. [19]

Kuldeep Manak, also spelled as Kuldip Manak, was an Indian singer best known for singing a rare genre of Punjabi music, kali, also known by its plural form kalian or kaliyan. Manak is generally regarded as one of the greatest Punjabi artists of all time. His high pitched strong voice was unique, and instantly recognisable. A statue of Manak has been erected in Ludhiana near his residence as a tribute.
Gurdas Maan is an Indian singer, songwriter and actor mainly associated with Punjabi language music and films. He gained national attention in 1980 with the song "Dil Da Mamla Hai". Since then, he had gone on to record over 34 albums and had written over 305 songs. In 2015 he performed on the song "Ki Banu Dunia Da" with Diljit Dosanjh in MTV Coke studio India that was aired in season 4 episode 5 on MTV India.
Neha Kakkar Singh is an Indian playback singer. She is the younger sister of playback singers Tony Kakkar and Sonu Kakkar. She began performing at a very early age at religious events. In 2005, she participated in the second season of the singing reality show, Indian Idol. She made her Bollywood debut as a chorus singer in the film Meerabai Not Out. She rose to prominence with the release of the dance track "Second Hand Jawaani" from Cocktail (2012), which was followed by several popular party songs, including "Sunny Sunny" from Yaariyan and "London Thumakda" from the 2014 soundtrack album Queen. Apart from playback singing, Kakkar has appeared in several music videos and as a judge on several television reality shows, including "Indian Idol".
Surinder Kaur was an Indian singer and songwriter. While she mainly sang Punjabi folk songs, where she is credited for pioneering and popularising the genre, Kaur also recorded songs as a playback singer for Hindi films between 1948 and 1952. For her contributions to Punjabi music, she earned the sobriquet Nightingale of Punjab, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1984, and the Padma Shri in 2006.

Zorawar is a Punjabi-language action film directed by Vinnil Markan, cinematography by Mohana Krishna and produced by PTC Motion Pictures. The film stars Yo Yo Honey Singh as the title character, alongside actresses Gurbani Judge and Parul Gulati. It was partly filmed in Durban during 2014, however released after a long delay on 6 May 2016.

Pinky Maidasani is an Indian rapper and playback singer. She has been described as the first female folk rapper of India, blending Rajasthani folk music with modern rap. She has performed in more than 5000 live shows; her songs have been featured in recent Bollywood movies. She sings in 13 languages. She has sung songs in the Bollywood film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. She sang a Punjabi rap song "Kikli Kalerdi" accompanied with Yo Yo Honey Singh. In 2015, her film Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene hit the theatres. She combined the rap with desi music.
Kick is the soundtrack to the 2014 film of the same name directed and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. An adaptation of the eponymous 2009 Telugu film, it stars Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The soundtrack features 18 songs, with five original tracks curated by Himesh Reshammiya, Meet Bros. Anjjan and Yo Yo Honey Singh and written by Kumaar, Shabbir Ahmed, Mayur Puri, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Jasmine Sandlas. The remainder is accompanied by remixes and alternate versions of those original tracks. T-Series released the soundtrack album on 27 June 2014.
