Jose Cabrera Montemayor Jr. (born February 17, 1962) is a Filipino cardiologist, lawyer, and politician. He is known for his career in medicine and law, as well as his involvement in politics, particularly his candidacy in the 2022 Philippine presidential election and the 2025 Philippine Senate election.
Montemayor was born in Sasmuan, Pampanga in 1962. [1] While other sources recall him being born in Imus, Cavite.[ citation needed ]
Montemayor went to the Far Eastern University, receiving the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, and the Doctor of Medicine degrees. [2]
Additionally, he earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), passing the Philippine Bar Examination to become a lawyer. [2] [3]
Montemayor currently works as the Legal Counsel and Legal Officer of the Philippine Heart Center, the Consultant in Internal Medicine and Clinical Cardiology at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, and other positions. [2]
He ran for president on the 2022 Philippine presidential election, receiving 60,592 votes or 0.11% of the votes. [4] [5]
As of December 2024, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) included Montemayor in the final list of 66 candidates for the 2025 Senate race. [6]
Montemayor said that "He will protect the rights of the OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) and he will provide legal and medical assistance to the workers". [7]
Montemayor says that he will remove the Operation Tokhang (Tokhang meaning "knock and plead" in Cebuano) because of certain instances of death, he says that he will address the issue some other way. [8]
