Journey to the West: Legends of the Monkey King is a 1998 animated series produced by China Central Television and the Quebec-based CINAR Corporation. [3] [4] [5] [6] It is based on the 16th-century novel Journey to the West . There are 26 episodes (52 segments) [1] in total, with a duration of about 22 minutes each (11 minutes per segment), along with a 75-minute prequel television film. [2] In the original 1998 Chinese edition of the series, there are instead 52 episodes with each segment being extended to a full, half-hour episode with added animation and dialogue, and the prequels making up episodes 1–7.[ citation needed ]

Contents

The English-language version of the show was produced by Cinar (now WildBrain, previously Cookie Jar Group and then DHX Media). It first aired on Teletoon in Canada in 2000, [1] and was later aired on the Cookie Jar Toons block on This TV in the U.S. from 2009 to 2010. In Indonesia, it was broadcast by Indosiar in 1999 to 2000 every Monday morning.[ citation needed ]

The production began in 1992. [7] It has been regarded as a classic of Chinese animation. [8]

Summary

Sun Wukong, who was born from a magic stone, has been imprisoned underneath a mountain for five centuries for his mischief in the heavens. One day, the Guanyin told Monkey that the Monk Tang Sanzang will set him free and Monkey will join him on a pilgrimage from China to India. The next day, Tripitaka came and set Monkey free, and the two started their Journey to the West. Along the way, they meet two new friends, Zhu Bajie and the Hermit Sha Wujing, who join them on the journey; together, they face many dangers and evil creatures and sorcerers and learn to get along.

They also wrote all the storylines. 26 episodes were produced. Creepschool has been compared to Gravedale High. This was the last television series produced by CINAR before it was rebranded as Cookie Jar Entertainment.

Journey to the West is a Chinese television series adapted from Wu Cheng'en's 16th-century novel of the same name. It was directed by Yang Jie and stars Liu Xiao Ling Tong as Sun Wukong, Chi Chongrui as Tang Sanzang, Ma Dehua as Zhu Bajie, and Yan Huaili as Sha Wujing.

Michael Hirsh (born April 7, 1948) is a Belgian-born Canadian producer, TV executive, entrepreneur, and author. He has been attributed to building from the ground up the Canadian animation industry and, more specifically, award-winning children's programming since the 1980s.  He co-founded Nelvana, a Canadian based animation and entertainment studio in 1971 with partners Patrick Loubert and Clive A. Smith producing numerous cartoons that established Nelvana as a leader in the industry including Little Bear, Franklin, Babar, Max & Ruby, The Magic School Bus, Care Bears, The Adventures of Tintin, Inspector Gadget, Droids and Ewoks, among many, many others. After Corus Entertainment's acquisition of Nelvana, Hirsh became the CEO of Cookie Jar Entertainment, which created numerous highly popular children's shows, among them Arthur, Johnny Test, and Strawberry Shortcake. When Cookie Jar was acquired by DHX Media Hirsh became the Executive Chairman of the company, the largest supplier of kids programming to online streaming services as well as a leader in production and licensing and merchandising for children. Three years after the acquisition by DHX Media, Hirsh left the company to serve as CEO and chairman of WOW! Unlimited Media from 2015 to December 2023.
