Marie-Sophie Kreissl [1] (born 12 November 1994), [2] also known professionally as Kaleen, is an Austrian singer, dancer and choreographer. She represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "We Will Rave". [3] [4]

Early life

Kaleen was raised in Ried im Traunkreis in Upper Austria. She is the granddaughter of Hanneliese Kreißl-Wurth  [ de ], a composer, lyricist and producer in the hit and folk music genres. She took ballet lessons for the first time at the age of two. At the age of seven, she won her first Austrian championship title. [3]

Kaleen cites Dua Lipa, Little Mix, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé and Zara Larsson as her musical influences. [5]

In 2014, she took part in the German version of the dance competition Got to Dance  [ de ] and reached the final together with her dance partner. Since 2020, she has been working as a choreographer and director for ORF, including for the show Starmania . In 2021, she founded her own record label, Wifi Records. Her first album, Stripping Feelings, was released in September 2023.

Since 2018, she has also been involved with the Eurovision Song Contest and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in various positions: as a stand-in singer for the rehearsals; as a dancer and choreographer for the interval acts in the 2018 contest; as a creative director for Spain and Bulgaria in the 2021 junior contest; as creative director for Spain and overall stage director in the 2022 contest; and she helped creating the stage performances for Austria, Armenia, Germany, and Georgia in the 2023 contest. On 16 January 2024, it was announced that Kaleen had been internally selected as Austria's representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, to be held in Malmö, Sweden. The song, titled "We Will Rave", was described as dance-pop and inspired by techno. It was released on 1 March 2024. [3] [4] Kaleen qualified from the second semi-final at Eurovision on 9 May 2024. [6] In the final, the song finished 24th of the 25 competing finalists, with 24 points overall.

Austria participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 with the song "The Secret Is Love" written by Thomas Rabitsch and Nadine Beiler. The song was performed by Nadine Beiler. In July 2010, the Austrian broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) announced that they would be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after a three-year absence following their withdrawal in 2008. ORF organised the national final Düsseldorf - wir kommen! in order to select the Austrian entry for the 2011 contest in Düsseldorf, Germany. Thirty songs competed in an online voting round titled Guten Morgen Düsseldorf, of which ten were selected to proceed to the national final. The ten songs competed in a televised show where two rounds of public voting selected the winner. The first round selected the top three entries to proceed to the second round, during which "The Secret Is Love" performed by Nadine Beiler was selected as the winner after gaining 46.73% of the votes.

Austria participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 with the song "Woki mit deim Popo" written by Lukas Plöchl and Manuel Hoffelner. The song was performed by the duo Trackshittaz. The Austrian broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) organised the national final Österreich rockt den Song Contest in order to select the Austrian entry for the 2012 contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. Ten songs competed in a televised show where a public vote first selected the top two entries to proceed to a second round of voting. In the second round, "Woki mit deim Popo" was selected as the winner after gaining 51% of the votes from a public vote. This was the first time that the Austrian song was performed entirely in the Mühlviertlerisch dialect at the Eurovision Song Contest.
