The Communist Party of India (CPI) is the oldest communist party in India and one of the eight national parties in the country. The CPI was founded in Kanpur on 26 December 1925.

He is the President of the Kerala State Committee and national Vice President of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions and the State Secretariat Member of the CPI(M) Kerala State Committee. Anandan is also the President of Kerala Coir Workers Centre. He was elected thrice to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Attingal constituency, in 1987, 1996 and 2006. The Kerala State Government had appointed him as the Vice Chairman of Apex Body for Coir in August 2016.
The 1932 Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway strike was a general strike launched against the retrenchment policies of the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway Company. The strike lasted from 24 October 1932 to 8 January 1933 and was moderate and non-violent in character as opposed to the 1928 South Indian Railway Strike which was extremely violent.
The Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) is an act of Parliament of India which was established to ensure the delivery of certain services, which if obstructed would affect the normal life of the people. This include services like public transport, health services. The ESMA is a law made by the Parliament of India under List No. 33 in Concurrent List of 7th Schedule of Constitution of India. Hence it maintains national uniformity by providing minimum conditions of essential services across the nation. For any violations in specific regions, State governments alone or together with other state government can enforce their respective act. Each state has a separate state Essential Services Maintenance Act with slight variations from the central law in its provisions. Hence, in case the nature of strike disrupts only a state or states, then the states can invoke it. In case of disruption on a national scale, especially railways, the ESMA 1968 can be invoked by central government.
Kadakampally Surendran is an Indian politician, who served as the Minister for Co-Operation, Tourism and Devaswom in the first Pinarayi Vijayan ministry (2016-2021) of the Government of Kerala.
