Kharkhoda is a city and municipal committee in Sonipat district in the Indian state of Haryana and is a part of National Capital Region (NCR). In Kharkhoda Chhapadeshwar Mahadev Mandir is very popular within the connected villages. At the time of Maha Shivratri festival a large number of tourists comes for visiting the temple. Due to the proximity of UT of Delhi, there is a lot of scope of industrial and residential development in the area. Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation acquired 3,200 acres of land to develop Industrial Model Township (IMT). Western Peripheral Expressway (KMP) is just 1 km and Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is 5 km away from the city. On 28 August 2022 Shri Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of Maruti Suzuki's new manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda. Khanda village of Kharkhoda block have a statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur (one of the great military commander of India) which was inaugurated by CM of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar on Shaurya Diwas celebrated in Khanda, Sonipat. Here Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb constructed a Mosque, which is now ruined. In Pre Partition days, Kharkhoda was the town of Muslim Sayyid Families, which are also called Mir. In 1947 they migrated to Pakistan. Famous Pakistani writer and researcher, Syed Qasim Mahmood, was born here.

Kharkhauda is located at 28°52′36″N76°54′42″E / 28.876681°N 76.911561°E / 28.876681; 76.911561 . [4] It has an average elevation of 207 metres (682 feet).

Demography

As of 2001 India census, Kharkhoda had a population of 18,758. [5] As a Tehsil it contain 45 villages in Tehsil had population of 160083 in villages. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Kharkhoda has an average literacy rate of 89%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 56%. In Kharkhoda, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age. Its current population is about 21,302. [6] Kharkhoda Land can be made subdivision after ongoing census of India. [7] The most common language spoken in Kharkhoda is Haryanvi. Khanda is very big & historical village in Kharkhoda.

It said to derive its name from Kharak, meaning a stall. Another tradition connects it with Khara and Dushana, the brothers of Ravana, the rakshasa king of Lanka (now Sri Lanka).

It is located 16 miles to the west from a nearby city, Rohtak. Total distance between Kharkhoda to Sonipat is 19 km . It has an elected municipal body to run the municipal administration of the town, which also contains the headquarters of the tehsil of Kharkhoda. In this historical site, there is a tomb of Syed Sufi Saint and his fair held annually. Also, there is a mandir that is very famous for Parwan Ji Maharaj, a spiritual guru.

The town nurses a number of places of public utility of which a college, a civil veterinary hospital, a civil dispensary, a head post office, and a police station are worth mentioning. It has an important Grain Market situated near Khanda Mod.

Very soon Kharkhoda town is going to become Industrial Model Town. Also a new Civil Hospital is constructed at Thana Kalan Road. Also, the new roads are under construction up to the newly constructed bypass all over the town, earlier it doesn't connect Rohtak road and Sonipat road but after the construction of this part of bypass now it covers all the town. ITI has been constructed on a Bypass.

IMT Kharkhoda

IMT Kharkhoda is located on Delhi Haryana border adjacent to KMP Expressway (Kundli Manesar Palwal). Due to its proximity with Delhi and direct connectivity with Bahadurgarh, Gurgaon and Sonipat via KMP Expressway, Kharkhoda Industrial Area will have a great potential in future for industrial development in Haryana. Upcoming Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor will also provide seamless rail connectivity to IMT Kharkhoda with nearby Industrial areas in Delhi NCR. Kharkhoda Industrial Area spreads across approx. 3217 acres and development is going to be start soon. Out of total 4348 industrial plots in Kharkhoda, 2965 plots are for general category and 1383 plots under R & R category. Plot sizes in IMT Kharkhoda start from 450 Sqm and going up to 4 acres. Maruti Suzuki is setting up Asia's biggest manufacturing plant in IMT Kharkhoda across 900 acres with an investment of 18000 crore. [10] [11]

On 28 August 2022 Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi lays foundation stone of Maruti Suzuki's new manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda. [12] [13] The Maruti Suzuki's Gurugram manufacturing facility will shift to new manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana. It will be the largest automobile manufacturing plant in Asia with capacity of making 15 lac cars per year. [14] [15]

Government of Haryana allotted 900acres of HSIIDC land to Maruti Suzuki for setting up a new manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda. [10] [16] [17]

The Khandava Forest or Khandava Vana or Khandavaprastha is a forest mentioned in the epic Mahābhārata. It lay to the west of Yamuna river. The Pandavas are described to have cleared this forest to construct their capital city called Indraprastha. This forest was earlier inhabited by Nāgas led by a king named Takṣaka.

The Western Peripheral Expressway (WPE) or Kundli–Manesar–Palwal Expressway, is an operational 6-lane, 135.6 km (84.3 mi)-long Expressway in the Haryana state of India. Along with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, the Western Peripheral Expressway is expected to divert more than 50,000 heavy vehicles away from Delhi, which will help to maintain good air quality in Delhi. Western Peripheral Expressway along with Eastern Peripheral Expressway completes the largest Ring Road around Delhi. There are 10 tolled entries and exits, from north to south - Kundli, Kharkhoda, Bahadurgarh, Badli, Fartukhnagar, Panchgaon, Manesar, Taoru, Sohna & Palwal. Toll rate notified in December 2018 is INR1.35 per km for cars, INR2.18 per km for light motor vehicles, INR4.98 per km for trucks and buses, and two wheelers are not permitted on the expressway.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway</span> Indian expressway connecting Delhi with Katra in J&K

Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is an approved 670 km (420 mi) long, 4-lane wide controlled-access expressway, which will connect Bahadurgarh border near Delhi with Katra in Jammu and Kashmir via Haryana and Punjab. It will have a spur section which will connect Nakodar with Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport located in Raja Sansi, Amritsar. The 397.7 km (247.1 mi) long Delhi–Nakodar–Katra section is National Expressway 5(NE-5) and 99 km (62 mi) long Amritsar–Nakodar section is National Expressway 5A(NE-5A). Once completed, it will reduce the current Delhi-Katra distance from 727 km (452 mi) to 588 km (365 mi) and the time travel will be reduced from 14 hours to 6 hours, and Delhi-Amritsar distance to 405 km (252 mi) and from the time travel will be reduced from 8 hours to only 4 hours.

<i>Garhi Sampla Uddar Gagan land case</i>

The Rohtak-Garhi Sampla Uddar Gagan Model Township land grab case pertains to illegal acquisition and licensing of 850.88 acres land under Bhupinder Singh Hooda's rule as the Chief Minister of Haryana. Hooda acquired land from illiterate poor farmers at a throwaway prices in the name of "public interest" and later licensed this land to builders by granting them out-of-turn favors, which resulted in exponential increase in the land value, causing gains to big builders. HUDA issued notification on 11 April 2002 for acquiring 850.88 acres land for residential and commercial development in Sector 27-28 of Rohtak However, which was later reduced to acquire 441.11 acre on 8 April 2003. A private builder, Uddar Gagan Properties Limited, was granted license by Hooda' government to develop a colony across 280 acres of the released land [excluded from government acquisition], thus accruing illegal gains to private middlemen. HUDA issued notification on 11 April 2002 for acquiring 850.88 acres land for residential and commercial development in Sector 27-28 of Rohtak However, which was later reduced to acquire 441.11 acre on 8 April 2003. A private builder, Uddar Gagan Properties Limited, was granted license by Hooda' government to develop a colony across 280 acres of the released land [excluded from government acquisition], thus accruing illegal gains to private middlemen. <i>Sonepat-Kharkhoda IMT land case</i>

Sonepat-Kharkhoda Industrial Model Township land case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Bhupinder Singh Hooda. This under-investigation scam pertains to acquisition of 700 acre land in 3 villages near Kharkhoda in Sonepat district for the Industrial Model Township.. Punjab and Haryana High Court in March 2013 and the Supreme Court of India in May 2016 had cancelled the government's decision to release land to the private builder. Two senior officials in then Chief Minister Hooda's office were indicted for allegedly favouring the developers. Subsequently, in 2018 the Government of Haryana referred the case to CBI to investigate the against Hooda and others.

<i>Haryana Raxil drug purchase case</i>

Haryana Raxil drug purchase scam case is a case under investigation by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Bhupinder Singh Hooda for the illegal purchase of Raxil fungicide which resulted in INR80 crore loss to the government. This scam, initially exposed by Ashok Khemka, is also pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation</span> State-owned agency of the government of Haryana, India

Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), formerly Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC), headquartered at Panchkula, is a 100% state-owned agency of the government of Haryana in the Indian state of Haryana. For ease of doing business, Haryana is the first state in India to introduce a labour policy in 2005 and Land Pooling Policy in 2017, for which HSIIDC acts as the nodal agency. Haryana Financial Corporation provides financial assistance for setting up new industrial units and for the expansion and diversification of the existing industries. Various universities, educational and training institutes, including the nation's first skills university Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University, provide the human resources to capitalise on the infrastructure created by the HSIIDC.

The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway is a 1,350 km long, 8-lane wide under-construction access-controlled expressway connecting India's national capital New Delhi to its financial capital Mumbai. The foundation stone for the project was laid by union minister Nitin Gadkari in the presence of Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley on 8 March 2019 and is inaugurated by PM Modi. The total project value including the land acquisition cost is around ₹1,00,000 crores . 

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor</span> 5 ft 6 in gauge railway railway project

Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), with target completion by 31 March 2025, is an under construction twin-track 121.7-kilometre (75.6 mi)-km long, 160 km per hour high-speed, railway project in Haryana state of India, which will run around along the Western Peripheral Expressway (WPE) on the western side of Delhi.
