Legacy Entertainment (formerly The Goddard Group) is a themed entertainment integrator and design firm based in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. [1] The company, then known as Gary Goddard Entertainment (GGE) and later the Goddard Group, was formed by Gary Goddard in 2002, after leaving his previous company, Landmark Entertainment Group. Goddard Group reorganized, changed ownership, and was rebranded Legacy Entertainment in 2018 when Gary Goddard left the company following accusations of sexual assault. [2] [3]

Projects

Legacy Entertainment has created a number of entertainment projects in a variety of forms, including theme parks, resorts, casinos, retail malls, Broadway shows, and films. The company has designed and developed attractions for clients such as Cirque du Soleil, Universal Studios, Six Flags, Insomniac Events, Haichang Polar Ocean World, Lotte World, Galaxy Entertainment Group, and Melco Resorts & Entertainment. Lotte World partnership

In 2012, the Goddard Group announced a partnership with South Korea’s Lotte World theme park to create a number of new rides, shows, and attractions. [5] Eight attractions opened as a result of this collaboration, including Jumping Fish, [6] Do You Speak Beluga?, [7] Underland, [8] Brother Moon & Sister Sun’s Tall Tales, [9] The Welcome Center, [10] Let’s Dream! Nighttime Parade, [11] Fairy Trails Dream Boats, [12] and Wild Tours. [12]

Cirque du Soleil partnership

In November 2014, Mexican resort developer Vidanta announced their intention to build and operate the world’s first Cirque du Soleil theme park at its resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The Goddard Group is the project’s designer. [13]

In May 2015, Gary Goddard revealed that the Goddard Group and Cirque du Soleil had signed a joint venture partnership agreement that would help expand Cirque into experiential entertainment. [14]

Awards and patents

In 2009, the Goddard Group was awarded Amusement Today 's Golden Ticket Award. They are the first entertainment design firm to win this award. [56]

The Goddard Group's Broadway production of the musical HAIR received the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 2009. [57] [58]

Gary Goddard is named as the co-inventor on the patents for The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride, Terminator 2: 3D, and Jurassic Park: The Ride. [59]

Goddard's projects have received a total of seven THEA awards. [60]

Universal Orlando Resort, often shortened to Universal Orlando, is a 541-acre (219 ha) theme park and entertainment resort complex located in Orlando, Florida. Following the opening of Universal Studios Florida in 1990, NBCUniversal moved forward with plans to expand from a single park into a large resort hoping to compete with Walt Disney World. In 1999, a second theme park called Islands of Adventure opened in addition to CityWalk, a shopping promenade and nightlife district that incorporates a variety of themed hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets. A 30-acre (12 ha) themed water park, Volcano Bay, was added in 2017, and a fourth upcoming theme park, Epic Universe, is scheduled to open in Summer 2025.

Opened in July 1989, Lotte World receives approximately 7.3 million visitors each year. Lotte World's sister theme park, Lotte World Adventure Busan, opened in March 2022.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is a 3D motion simulator and dark ride located at Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man, it was originally built for Islands of Adventure's grand opening in 1999. A second version of the attraction also existed at Universal Studios Japan from 2004 to 2024. The attraction has a hybrid configuration that combines motion vehicles with 3D projection and elaborate physical sets.
