The Haberdashers' Boys' School (commonly referred to as Habs) is a British independent school for pupils aged 4 to 18 in Hertfordshire which is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference and the Haileybury Group.
Former students at Haberdashers' are referred to as Old Haberdashers. A number of former Haberdashers' students have entered the comedy and acting professions, of whom Sacha Baron Cohen, Matt Lucas and Jason Isaacs are particularly prominent.
Haberdashers' has also produced a number of statesmen and others in the political sphere, with the former Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, David Lidington, and former Home Secretary, Leon Brittan (Baron Brittan of Spennithorne), being former pupils of the School. The historian Simon Schama, a frequent contributor to television and radio programmes, and the late Brian Sewell, 'Britain's most famous and controversial art critic', [1] are also Old Haberdashers' of the School.
The Royal Society of Arts Benjamin Franklin Medal was instituted in 1956 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birth and the 200th anniversary of his membership to the Royal Society of Arts.
Kennedy Scholarships provide full funding for up to ten British post-graduate students to study at either Harvard University or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Susan Hockfield, the sixteenth president of MIT, described the scholarship program as a way to "offer exceptional students unique opportunities to broaden their intellectual and personal horizons, in ways that are more important than ever in an era defined by global interaction.". In 2007, 163 applications were received, of which 10 were ultimately selected, for an acceptance rate of 6.1%.
The Honours Committee is a committee within the Cabinet Office of the Government of the United Kingdom formed to review nominations for national honours for merit, exceptional achievement or service. Twice yearly the Honours Committee submits formal recommendations for the British monarch's New Years and Birthday Honours. Members of the Honours Committee—which comprises a main committee and nine subcommittees in speciality areas—research and vet nominations for national awards, including knighthoods and the Order of the British Empire.
Old Dunstonian Association (ODA) is the alumni organisation for former pupils and staff of St Dunstan's College. The association sponsors a number of events for its members and several sports clubs which members can join. The Association and its constituent clubs are run by voluntary, unpaid Boards and Committees. The sports clubs each have their own separate membership and subscription arrangements. The ODA welcomes all former members of the St. Dunstan’s community to join us.
