This list of carnivorous plant periodicals is a listing of periodicals devoted to the subject of carnivorous plants, most of which are (or were) published by carnivorous plant societies. The list includes magazines and journals as well as supplementary newsletters. Notable online periodicals are also listed.

Contents

Unless otherwise indicated, all information on individual publications is sourced from them directly or from their official websites. The terms bimonthly, biannual and triannual are used to mean "every two months", "twice a year" and "three times a year", respectively.

Magazines and journals

This list includes the main publications of various carnivorous plant societies. These periodicals are often printed to a high standard and typically carry articles on matters of horticultural interest, together with field reports, literature reviews, and, in some cases, peer reviewed scientific studies. Certain publications self-styled as "newsletters"—notably the Carnivorous Plant Newsletter —fall into this category, and are distinguished from the supplementary newsletters listed below.

Newsletters

<i>Nepenthes mirabilis</i> Wide-ranging species of tropical pitcher plant

Nepenthes mirabilis, or the common swamp pitcher-plant and tropical pitcher plant, is a carnivorous plant species. By far the most widespread of all Nepenthes, its range covers continental Southeast Asia and all major islands of the Malay Archipelago, stretching from China in the north to Australia in the south. The species exhibits great variability throughout its range. One of the more notable varieties, N. mirabilis var. echinostoma, is endemic to Brunei and Sarawak and possesses an extremely wide peristome.

<i>Drosera binata</i> Species of plant

Drosera binata, commonly known as the forked sundew or fork-leaved sundew. It is a large, perennial sundew native to Australia and New Zealand. The specific epithet is Latin for "having pairs" - a reference to the leaves, which are dichotomously divided or forked.

<i>Nepenthes <span style="font-style:normal;">×</span> pyriformis</i> Species of carnivorous plant

Nepenthes × pyriformis is a natural hybrid involving N. inermis and N. talangensis. It is known only from Mount Talang in Sumatra, to which N. talangensis is endemic. Nepenthes talangensis was only described as a distinct species in 1994. Prior to this it was placed within N. bongso and some of the older literature identifies this hybrid as N. bongso × N. inermis.

Bejean is a Japanese monthly men's magazine which originally started publication under the name Beppin. It has been described as "probably the best selling men's magazine" in Japan and was called by J-List "One of the cornerstones of Japanese AV magazines." As with its sister publication Video Boy, the magazine specializes in nude photo sets of present and aspiring Japanese AV idols.

Trifid is a quarterly Czech-language periodical and the official publication of Darwiniana, a carnivorous plant society based in the Czech Republic. Typical articles include matters of horticultural interest, field reports, and scientific studies. The journal was established in 1990 as Amatérské Pěstování Masožravých Rostlin and obtained its current title in 1996. It is published in B5 format, with each issue numbering around 36 pages, of which 24 are in colour.

The International Pinguicula Study Group Newsletter was the official publication of the International Pinguicula Study Group, a Pinguicula society based in the United Kingdom that was active during the 1990s. Typical articles included matters of horticultural interest, field reports, and scientific studies. Only 10 issues were ever released and the newsletter had an irregular publication history. In chronological order, the 10 issues were: volume 1, volume 2, volume 3, volume 4, volume 5, volume 6, volume 7, volume 8, volume 9, and volume 10. The International Carnivorous Plant Society hosts an online archive of all ten issues.

<i>AIPC Magazine</i> Academic journal

AIPC Magazine is a quarterly Italian-language periodical and the official publication of Associazione Italiana Piante Carnivore (AIPC), a carnivorous plant society based in Rome, Italy. Typical articles include matters of horticultural interest, field reports, and plant descriptions. The periodical was established as AIPC News by Marcello Catalano in January 1998, at a time when the newly founded AIPC had only around 30 members.

<i>The Carnivorous Plants</i>

The Carnivorous Plants is a major work on carnivorous plants by American botanist Francis Ernest Lloyd. It was first published in 1942 by the Chronica Botanica Company as the ninth volume of A New Series of Plant Science Books. It was reprinted in 1976 by Dover Publications of New York and Constable of London. Although primarily dealing with plants, the book also briefly covers carnivorous fungi. The chapter describing the structure and functioning of Utricularia traps is particularly detailed. Lloyd's book was the most important scientific work on carnivorous plants since Charles Darwin's Insectivorous Plants of 1875.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">CiNii</span> Japanese bibliographic database service

CiNii is a bibliographic database service for material in Japanese academic libraries, especially focusing on Japanese works and English works published in Japan. An early trial version of the database was a component of its predecessor called GeNii, available online at least since June 2002. A complete version of CiNii has been available since April 2005. The service searches from within the databases maintained by the NII itself, as well as the databases provided by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (J-STAGE), the National Diet Library of Japan, institutional repositories, and other organizations.

<i>Gamest</i> Japanese video game magazine

Gamest was a Japanese video game magazine that specialized in covering arcade games. Published by Shinseisha, it first began in May 1986 and originally published bi-monthly, later changed to be a monthly-issued magazine in the late 1980s. The magazine also featured the annual "Gamest Awards", which hands out awards to games based on user vote. The magazine had a heavy-focus on shoot 'em up arcade games, but would also cover games from other genres. Gamest originated from the bi-monthly fanzine VG2 Newsletter from the early 1980s. The magazine ran for several years, with its final issue being released in September 1999. Following the bankruptcy of publisher Shinseisha, many editors would move to ASCII and create a successor magazine, Monthly Arcadia.

<i>Journal of Plant Research</i> Academic journal

The Journal of Plant Research is a bimonthly peer-reviewed scientific journal of botany published on behalf of the Botanical Society of Japan by Springer Science+Business Media. Its predecessor, The Botanical Magazine of Tokyo, first published in 1887, ran until volume 105 in 1992; during this period, over 4,900 plant names were first published in its pages. The journal obtained its current name in 1995.
