This is a list of the 300 members who were elected to the Hellenic Parliament in the September 2015 Greek legislative election.
The parliament started its work by passing the bills that the SYRIZA government had negotiated with the country's lenders in the previous months in order to close the first evaluation of the Third Economic Adjustment Programme for Greece. In addition to the memorandum obligations, a very controversial law on television licenses was passed in 2015 (154 pro - 146 against), as well as the extension of the civil partnership to same-sex couples. The Coalition of the Radical Left – Progressive Alliance, best known by the syllabic abbreviation SYRIZA, is a centre-left to left-wing political party in Greece. It was founded in 2004 as a political coalition of left-wing and radical left parties, and registered as a political party in 2012.
Kyriakos Iosif Velopoulos is a Greek politician. He is a member of the Hellenic Parliament and has been president of the Greek Solution political party since its foundation in 2016. Velopoulos is a former parliamentarian for the Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) and former member of New Democracy. He is also a journalist, author and television personality.
Democratic Left was a social-democratic political party in Greece. Formed as a split from Synaspismós, DIMAR was a minor party supporting the Samaras cabinet from 21 June 2012 to 21 June 2013. After being a member of the Democratic Alignment (DISI) and the Movement for Change (KINAL), it affiliated to Syriza in 2019. The party was dissolved in 2022.
The Leader of the Official Opposition is the politician who leads the biggest opposition party in Greece.
The Independent Greeks – National Patriotic Alliance was a national conservative political party in Greece.
The River was a centrist and social-liberal political party in Greece. The party was founded in February 2014 by Stavros Theodorakis. The party did not run in the 2019 elections and had no seats in the Hellenic Parliament.
Legislative elections were held in Greece on Sunday, 20 September 2015, following Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' announced resignation on 20 August. At stake were all 300 seats in the Hellenic Parliament. This was a snap election, the sixth since 2007, since new elections were not due until February 2019.
Gabriel Sakellaridis is a Greek economist and politician of Syriza. From January 2015 to July 2015 he served as the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson in the Cabinet of Alexis Tsipras. Since September 2017, he is the Greece country Director of Amnesty International.
Nikolaos Chountis is a Greek politician and former Member of the European Parliament, currently serving as General Secretary of the political party Popular Unity.
Afroditi Theopeftatou is a Greek civil engineer and politician, member of the Council of the Hellenes from 2012 until 11 January 2019. Born in Athens, she is a graduate of the Polytechnic School of the University of Patras and worked as a civil engineer.
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Greece on 21 May 2023. All 300 seats in the Hellenic Parliament were contested. They were the first elections since 1990 not to be held under a bonus seats system, due to amendments to the electoral law made in 2016. Instead, a purely proportional system was used.
The Greek Solution is a political party in Greece founded by former MP Kyriakos Velopoulos. The party is right-wing to far-right and has been described as ideologically ultranationalist, national conservative, and right-wing populist. The party garnered 3.7% of the vote in the 2019 Greek legislative election, winning 10 out of the 300 seats in the Hellenic Parliament and 4.18% of the vote in the 2019 European Parliament election in Greece, winning one seat in the European Parliament.
Katerina Sakellaropoulou is a Greek judge who has been the president of Greece since 13 March 2020. She was elected by the Hellenic Parliament to succeed Prokopis Pavlopoulos on 22 January 2020. Prior to her election as president, Sakellaropoulou served as president of the Council of State, the highest administrative court of Greece. She is the country's first female president.
National Party – Greeks, formerly Greeks for the Fatherland, is a Greek far-right political party founded on 4 June 2020, by Ilias Kasidiaris, a former MP and spokesperson of Golden Dawn, who is currently serving a 13-year prison term for his involvement in the criminal organisation run by Golden Dawn, allegations for which he maintains his innocence.
Thanassis Theocharopoulos is an agricultural economist, Greek politician and chairman of the Democratic Left (DIMAR). In 2019 he served as Tourism Minister for Syriza.
Eftychia "Effie" Achtsioglou, is a Greek politician who served as Minister for Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity from 2016 to 2019. She is a member of the Hellenic Parliament since July 2019 and a leading figure of the New Left since December 2023. She was a member of SYRIZA and an MP for the party until she left in November 2023.
The New Left is a left-wing democratic socialist political party in the Hellenic Parliament. It was founded on 4 December 2023 by eleven independent MPs who left the Syriza party. The president of the parliamentary group is Alexis Haritsis. The New Left officially became a party on 3 March 2024 after its founding conference.
