The prime minister of Portugal is the head of government of Portugal. Marcelo Nuno Duarte Rebelo de Sousa is a Portuguese politician and academic. He is the 20th and current president of Portugal, since 9 March 2016. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party, though he suspended his party membership for the duration of his presidency. Augusto Ernesto dos Santos Silva is a Portuguese sociologist, university professor, and politician who served as the President of the Assembly of the Republic between 2022 and 2024, in the 15th Legislature. From November 2015 to March 2022, he was the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the XXI and XXII Constitutional Governments led by Prime Minister António Costa.
Luís Maria Kalidás da Costa Barreto GOL was a Portuguese accountant and unionist. Barreto was one of the founders of Portuguese trades union confederation, the CGTP, some five decades earlier, and died on 30 October 2020 in Castanheira de Pera, fourteen days after his 88th birthday.
Júlio Francisco Miranda Calha was a Portuguese Socialist Party politician. He served in the Assembly of the Republic from the Constituent Assembly in 1975 until the end of the 13th legislature in 2019.

Ana Catarina Veiga dos Santos Mendonça Mendes is a Portuguese politician of the Socialist Party (PS) who has been a member of the Assembly of the Republic since 1995 and, from 2019, led the party in Parliament. In March 2022, she was appointed Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in the XXIII Constitutional Government, a position she held until after the March 2024 national election.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul is the head of government of the state's executive branch, assisted by his secretaries, whom he freely chooses. At the 2024 legislative election it had 93,106 registered electors.

The constituency was established in 1976 when the Assembly of the Republic was established by the constitution following the restoration of democracy. The constituency currently elects two of the 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2024 legislative election it had 609,436 registered electors.
