Longki Djanggola is an Indonesian politician and currently the governor of Central Sulawesi. [1] [2] He was responsible for launching the province's joint Chinese-Indonesian nickel smelter at Morowali Industrial Park in 2015. [3]
Djanggola was also the presiding civilian official over the efforts to apprehend members of Mujahidin Indonesia Timur (MIT),encouraging their membership at large to surrender after several of their leaders were eliminated during Operation Tinombala. [4] A portion of MIT's leaders were arrested in addition to some who were killed during shootouts with the police,and Djanggola praised the Operation for its relatively humane approach. [5]
Central Sulawesi is a province of Indonesia located at the centre of the island of Sulawesi. The administrative capital and largest city is located in Palu. The 2010 census recorded a population of 2,635,009 for the province,and the 2020 Census recorded 2,985,734,of whom 1,534,706 were male and 1,451,028 were female. Central Sulawesi has an area of 61,841.29 km2 (23,877 sq mi),the largest area among all provinces on Sulawesi Island,and has the second-largest population on Sulawesi Island after the province of South Sulawesi. It is bordered by the provinces of Gorontalo to the north,West Sulawesi,South Sulawesi and South East Sulawesi to the south,by Maluku to the east,and by the Makassar Strait to the west. The province is inhabited by many ethnic groups,such as the Kaili,Tolitoli,etc. The official language of the province is Indonesian,which is used for official purposes and inter-ethnic communication,while there are several indigenous language spoken by the Indigenous peoples of Central Sulawesi. Islam is the dominant religion in the province,followed by Christianity which is mostly adhered to by the people in the eastern part of the province.
Mujahedeen KOMPAK or KOMPAC is a Darul Islam organisation based in Indonesia's Sulawesi province. Formed in 1988 with the stated aim of helping victims of conflict and disaster,it has been linked to providing funding for terrorist organisations such as Jemaah Islamiyah as well as carrying out attacks on local Christian groups. The organisation has been accused of diverting relief funds from mainstream Muslims in Australia and abroad to fund terrorist activities.

Morowali Regency is a regency of Central Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 5,472 km2 and the districts now within the regency had a combined population of 102,228 at the 2010 Census;the regency population at the 2020 Census was 161,727. The administrative centre is at the town of Bungku. The Regency includes the far-flung Menui Islands,lying to the southwest of the rest of the province.

The Walisongo school massacre is the name given to a series of attacks by Christian militants on May 28,2000 upon several predominantly Muslim villages around Poso town,Central Sulawesi,Indonesia as part of a broader sectarian conflict in the Poso region. Officially,the total number killed in the attacks is 165,but there is no definite figure of how many died. The number of dead is believed to be more than the 39 calculated from bodies later discovered in three mass graves,and equal to or below the 191 quoted by Muslim sources.

In June 2021,Harita commissioned the first HPAL plant in Indonesia,which produces Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate,a raw material for electric vehicle batteries. The project had an estimated cost of $1 billion. The current CEO of Harita Group is Lim Gunawan Hariyanto.
Santoso,known as Abu Wardah,was an Indonesian Islamic militant and the leader of East Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT). He pledged allegiance to ISIL in July 2014. He was killed on 18 July 2016 by the Indonesian Army after two years of hiding in the jungles near Poso,Sulawesi.
Operation Madago Raya,previously known as Operation Tinombala,is a joint police–military operation conducted by the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian Armed Forces to capture and/or eliminate members of Mujahidin Indonesia Timur (MIT),an Indonesian terrorist group which supports ISIL and was commanded by Santoso. In 2016,the Indonesian military and police succeeded in killing Santoso,but the then Chief of the National Police Tito Karnavian continued the operation to ensure the region's safety from the remaining members of the group. Central Sulawesi governor Longki Djanggola praised the operation for its relatively humane methods,since several leaders of the group were successfully captured alive. Only 19 militants were however captured alive,while more than 40 were killed.
The East Indonesia Mujahideen is a terrorist group operating out of Poso,Sulawesi in Indonesia. The group was led by Abu Wardah until he was killed by Indonesian police on 18 July 2016. After the death of Santoso,the group was led by Ali Kalora until he was killed on 18 September 2021. The group has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
