Lynn is a hamlet [1] in the Lichfield District in Staffordshire, England. It is located close to the towns of Aldridge and Brownhills. The hamlet is in Shenstone parish [2] , close to the villages of Shenstone, Stonnall and Mill Green. The hamlet also lies close to the Staffordshire/West Midlands County border near Brownhills and Aldridge.
Lynn's name likely derives old Welsh/British for "Lake". The lake is likely no longer existent but the name is retained for the hamlet. [3] Despite its close proximity to the neighbouring village of Stonnall, the hamlet maintains its own distinct identity in the form of signs marking the boundaries between it and Stonnall. The hamlet was also once an estate and part of the hamlet of Upper Stonnall. [4] A notable resident of Lynn is Sidney John Genders, who was born in the hamlet and went on in 1970 to set a world record of single handedly rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. [5]
Stonnall is the closest settlement for Lynn, with shops, a church, school, doctors surgery and pubs. Lynn is mostly made up farms, private houses and small businesses, with two notable including The Lynn Nurseries [6] and Ntifood [7] .
Lynn is served by Chaserider bus service 36 between Walsall, Aldridge, Stonnall, Shenstone and Lichfield on Mill Lane. [8] The nearest railway station is Shenstone on the Cross-City Line.
