The league serves as the second-tier of the Mumbai Football League and is organized by the Mumbai District Football Association. It is contested by 29 clubs. The two teams standing 1st and 2nd in their respective groups after completion of the Group Stage, advance to the knockout round of the MDFA Super Division. The team standing last after completion of the Group Stage in the each group will be demoted to the First Division of the 2018-19 season. The matches will be played at Mumbai Football Arena and St Xaviers Ground.
The Nadkarni Cup is a football competition in Mumbai, India, which was first held in 1908. From 1908-1913 it was known as Junior Rovers Cup which was contested by school and college teams of Bombay now Mumbai. It is hosted by the Mumbai District Football Association. The Cup was not held in 1914-1918 due to World War I but was not immediately revived after the war. In 1925, Western India Football Association allocated Junior Rovers Cup trophy to a completely new tournament only for Indian football clubs and then the new tournament was called Nadkarni Cup. The cup is contested by MDFA Elite Division and a couple of MDFA Super Division clubs.
