Mumbai Football Association (MFA), sometimes known as Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) is an organisation that governs the football in and around the Indian city of Mumbai. [2] [3] [4] It is a member of the Western India Football Association, which is affiliated to the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The MDFA organises Mumbai Football League, overlooking promotion and development of football in the bustling city of Mumbai.

History

The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA), which is a non-profit organization, was established in 1983 and is the official district body for development, conduct and organization of football in the city of Mumbai and its suburbs. The MDFA is affiliated with the Western India Football Association (WIFA), a state association of Maharashtra. From a beginning of 57 football clubs affiliated to it, the association now caters to and conducts football activity for more than 10,000 players.

Mumbai had always been a center of football on the western coast of India from British days. Western India Football Association conducted the Harwood Football League and the prestigious Rovers Cup, an all India tournament, [5] which has come as a legacy to MDFA.

The MDFA is managed by the Executive Council consisting of a president, 4 vice presidents, general secretary, treasurer, 4 assistant secretaries and 15 committee members. In addition to these, six members whose services would be beneficial to the association are also co-opted on the executive committee. The term of the executive Council is four years.

Olympians and internationals of MDFA

Mumbai has produced a number of olympians and international players of high repute, who have proudly represented our country with excellence. Double olympian S. S. Narayan was the vice-president of MDFA. Olympians Sanjeeva Uchil and Fortunato Franco also hail from Mumbai. Many international players have been produced under the aegis of MDFA. They are Mario Gracious, Bandya Kakade, Derek D'Souza, Ranjit Thapa, Amar Bahadur, Yusuf Ansari, Godfrey Pereira, Khalid Jamil, Henry Menezes, Akhil Ansari, Bernard Pereira, Arthur Pereira, Santosh Kashyap, Steven Dias and Abhishek Yadav ,to name a few.

The team was dissolved in 2011.

    Sports are an essential part of Maharashtrian culture. In Maharashtra, cricket is considered the most popular sport, but Kabaddi, field hockey, Kho Kho, badminton, and table tennis are also widely played. In the state's rural regions, wrestling championships such as Hind Kesari and Maharashtra Kesari regularly take place. Among youths in the state, games like Viti-Dandu and Pakada-pakadi (tag) are also popular.

    MDFA Super Division Semi-professional football league in Mumbai

    The MDFA Super Division is a men's football league in Mumbai, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The league serves as the second-tier of the Mumbai Football League and is organized by the Mumbai District Football Association.The champions of the Super Division get promoted to the Elite Division. The last place teams in the groups gets relegated to the First Division. It is contested by 33 clubs.The Current Champions are Reliance Foundation Youth Champs and Atlanta FC are runners up.

    The MDFA Super Division is a men's semi-professional football league in Mumbai, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The league serves as the second-tier of the Mumbai Football League and is organized by the Mumbai District Football Association. It is contested by 29 clubs. The two teams standing 1st and 2nd in their respective groups after completion of the Group Stage, advance to the knockout round of the MDFA Super Division. The team standing last after completion of the Group Stage in the each group will be demoted to the First Division of the 2018-19 season. The matches will be played at Mumbai Football Arena and St Xaviers Ground.

    The Nadkarni Cup is a football competition in Mumbai, India, which was first held in 1908. From 1908-1913 it was known as Junior Rovers Cup which was contested by school and college teams of Bombay now Mumbai. It is hosted by the Mumbai District Football Association. The Cup was not held in 1914-1918 due to World War I but was not immediately revived after the war. In 1925, Western India Football Association allocated Junior Rovers Cup trophy to a completely new tournament only for Indian football clubs and then the new tournament was called Nadkarni Cup. The cup is contested by MDFA Elite Division and a couple of MDFA Super Division clubs.

    The Tamil Nadu Football Association is one of the 37 Indian state football associations that are affiliated to the All India Football Federation. The TNFA administers lower tier football in the state of Tamil Nadu.

    The 2019 Nadkarni Cup is the 112th season of the Nadkarni Cup, a football competition played in Mumbai, Indiain state of Maharashtra. The 16 teams will play the tournament. The cup will commence from 21 August 2019.
