The Malaysia Premier Futsal League, commonly abbreviated as MPFL, is a group of men's professional futsal leagues sanctioned by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). It was previously known as the Liga Futsal Kebangsaan (LFK).

History

In 2004, Football Association of Malaysia introduced the first futsal league sponsored by Hyundai, the Hyundai National Futsal Championship, played by 18 teams and was held at Sports Planet Ampang. In 2006, it was renamed the Celcom National Futsal Championship after Celcom took over. It was held in four zones with 33 teams. In 2007, FELDA took over and renamed it to Liga Futsal Kebangsaan FAM/FELDA. The women categories were introduced.

Figos RSA became the first club to win the title in 2009. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] In 2019, the Liga Futsal Kebangsaan was rebranded into the Malaysia Premier Futsal League. A total of 9 teams competed. [6] Selangor won the inaugural edition. Saiful Nizam, Ridzwan Bakri and Fariq Mohammad became the winners of the Golden boot.

2020s

Four new teams joined for the 2020 season (Sarawak, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan and KPT–PST Mustangs). Melaka withdrew from the league. [7] The league was postponed on March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [8] For the 2021 season, 20 teams would play in two groups. [9] However, the league was cancelled again. After COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia ended, MPFL was back for the 2022 season. Four new teams joined. Sarawak withdrew from the league. [10] Selangor MAC won the title. [11] Silva Matheus Vasconcelos and Ekmal Shahrin won the Golden boot award. Three new teams joined in 2023, and four withdrew. [12] [13] Ali Ebrahimi became the top scorer.

Divided into two divisions

Seven new teams (Canaan FC, Kelantan, Malaysian University, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan United, Nilai City SC and PJ Champz) joined the MPFL Division 2.
