Arizona Territory, colloquially referred to as Confederate Arizona, was an organized incorporated territory of the Confederate States of America that existed from August 1, 1861, to May 26, 1865, when the Confederate States Army Trans-Mississippi Department, commanded by General Edmund Kirby Smith, surrendered at Shreveport, Louisiana. However, after the Battle of Glorieta Pass, the Confederates had to retreat from the territory, and by July 1862, effective Confederate control of the territory had ended. Delegates to the secession convention had voted in March 1861 to secede from the New Mexico Territory and the Union, and seek to join the Confederacy. It consisted of the portion of the New Mexico Territory south of the 34th parallel, including parts of the modern states of New Mexico and Arizona. The capital was Mesilla, along the southern border. The breakaway region overlapped Arizona Territory, established by the Union government in February 1863.
John Robert Baylor was a US Indian agent, publisher and editor, politician, and a senior officer of the Confederate States Army. After being dismissed as Indian agent, he became one of the founding editors of The White Man, a newspaper in North Texas, and a strong critic of Governor Sam Houston.
John Dixon Bridgers II was an American football coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Johns Hopkins University from 1953 to 1956 and at Baylor University from 1959 to 1968, compiling a career college football record of 59–74–2. Bridgers was the athletic director at Florida State University from 1973 to 1979 and at the University of New Mexico from 1979 to 1987. He also worked as an assistant coach in the National Football League with the Baltimore Colts (1957–1958) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1969).
Sam Bradford Boyd was an American football player and coach. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 1939 NFL Draft. He served as the head football coach of the Baylor University from 1956 to 1958, compiling a record of 15–15–1. His 1956 squad finished a 9–2 season with a win over Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl. Boyd played college football at Baylor from 1936 to 1938 and with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) in 1939 and 1940. Boyd served in the United States Navy for three years during World War II attaining the rank of lieutenant. In 1962, he was inducted into Baylor's Athletic Hall of Fame. Boyd died on June 8, 2001, at his home in Granbury, Texas.

The Baylor–TCU football rivalry, known as The Bluebonnet Battle and informally as The Revivalry, is an American college football rivalry between the Baylor Bears and TCU Horned Frogs. The first game of the 120-game series was played in 1899, making the rivalry one of the oldest and most played in FBS college football. After 120 meetings, the series is the most-played college rivalry in the State of Texas.
The 2012–13 Big 12 men's basketball season began with practices in October 2012, followed by the start of the regular-season in November. Conference play began in early January 2013 and concluded in March with the 2013 Big 12 men's basketball tournament at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The game kicked off at 12:30 PM EST and was broadcast on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Radio and XM Satellite Radio. It was sponsored by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and was officially known as the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
