Martin "Mark" Lagdameo Lopez is the chairman of ABS-CBN Corporation,the largest entertainment and media conglomerate in the Philippines,with investments primarily in television,radio,cable telecommunications,and film production. [2] [3]
Lopez completed INSEAD’s general management program in 2017,received his Executive Masters in Business Administration degree from the Asian Institute of Management in 2003,and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Menlo College,California in 1994. [4]
Before joining ABS-CBN,Lopez was the vice president and chief information officer of Manila Electric Company (Meralco). [5] He also served as president of e-Meralco Ventures Inc until 2010. [6] He joined ABS-CBN as its chief technology officer. Lopez was elected chairman on April 18,2018,succeeding his cousin Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III,who served as chairman since 1997. On October 2,2020,Lopez was elected vice-chairman of Lopez Holdings Corporation. [8]
Fernando Hofileña Lopez Sr. was a Filipino statesman. A member of the influential Lopez family of Iloilo,he served as vice president of the Philippines for three terms –under Elpidio Quirino (1949–1953) for the Liberals and Ferdinand Marcos for the Nacionalistas. The GSIS–Meralco bribery case was a landmark case heard by the Supreme Court of the Philippines. This complex case began with a complaint filed by the Philippines' Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) with the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines (SEC) questioning the unvalidated proxy votes used by the Lopez family in a board election of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco). The SEC issued a cease and desist order (CDO) against Meralco,which was ignored by the latter. A show cause order (SCO) was then issued by the SEC,whereupon Meralco petitioned the Court of Appeals,questioning the jurisdiction of the SEC. The Court of Appeals issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) to the SEC while the Special 9th Division composed of Associate Justices Vicente Q. Roxas,Jose L. Sabio Jr. and Myrna Dimaranan Vidal heard the case. Roxas was assigned as the ponente while Sabio was the acting chairman.
