The Mendon Center Historic District is a historic district encompassing the village center of Mendon, Massachusetts, and some of its surrounding rural areas. It is roughly bounded by Main, Hastings, Maple, North, Washington & George Streets. The village is centered on the triangle defined by Main, Hastings, and Maple Streets, with dwellings built up on the roads that radiate away from this area. Founders' Park, located at the junction of Main, Hastings, North and Milford Streets, is the site of the original town center, where the first meeting house was located. The district has residential buildings dating from the 18th to the mid-20th centuries, in a wide variety of styles. The focal point of the town center is the Second Unitarian Church, an 1820 building designed by Worcester architect Elias Carter. [2]

The town meeting in 1885 set aside North Uxbridge as a "special district", since its population had exceeded 1000 people. In 2013, an Uxbridge DIY show, The Garage, with Steve Butler, went worldwide from Steve's garage in North Uxbridge.
Wheelockville is a village in the town (township) of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, United States. Part of the village centering on Mendon and Henry streets is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Wheelockville Historic District. Wheelockville appears on the Blackstone U.S. Geological Survey Map. The Village receives municipal services from Uxbridge, for fire, police, EMS, School district, public works, and other services. Worcester's Judicial District includes Uxbridge District Court. The geography of Wheelockville includes several other distinct mill villages, including: Hecla and Elmdale.
The Wheelockville District is an historic district located at Mendon and Henry streets in the village of Wheelockville in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. It encompasses a collection of modest Federal and Greek Revival period worker housing, built primarily to house families of workers at the nearby Waucantuck Mill Complex. The oldest houses in the area were built c. 1825–35, and include cottages built by the mill owners. A second phase of growth between about 1860 and 1885 resulted in the construction of a number of buildings with vernacular Victorian elements, as well as the somewhat more ornate Italianate Wheelock House at 173 Mendon Street, which was built for a manager at another Uxbridge mill. The district runs roughly along Mendon Street from Hecla Street to the junction of Mendon and Henry Streets, and then along those two streets for about six houses.
The Blackstone Manufacturing Company Historic District encompasses the "New City" or "High Rocks" area of Blackstone, Massachusetts, an industrial village associated with the Blackstone Manufacturing Company, which began operations in 1809. It includes an area roughly surrounding Butler, Canal, Church, County, Ives, Main, Mendon, Old Mendon, and School Streets. The district includes a wide variety of worker housing, as well as a granite storehouse, the only surviving company structure. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
The Monument Park Historic District is a historic district centered on Monument Park in downtown Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The district has one of the city's finest assemblages of high-quality architecture, including a number of civic, religious, and commercial buildings near the park. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The Central Street Historic District is a historic district encompassing a portion of the historic village center of Millville, Massachusetts. Its spine is Central Street, the main north–south artery through the town, running from Main Street in the north to just south of Quaker Street in the south. The district includes adjoining properties on a number of side streets. The northern end is discontiguous with Millville's Main Street Historic District, on the north side of the Blackstone River, because of the demolition of historic buildings and alterations to the junction of Main and Central Streets. Millville's town offices are located in the former Longfellow School, built in 1850 and located at 8 Central Street. South of the river there is more of a commercial center, and as Central Street climbs the hillside above the river, it becomes more residential. This last area was where the fashionable homes of Millville's wealthier residents were built. The oldest portions of the district are the remnant sites of the mills which prompted the growth of the town. These were built on an island in the river, although later mills were built on its northern and southern banks.
The Center Village District encompasses the historic village center of Lancaster, Massachusetts. Settled in 1643, it has few traces of its early history, but is now a well-kept rural town center with a predominantly residential and civic character. It includes the First Church of Christ, Lancaster, which is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
The Hopedale Village Historic District encompasses much of the historic 19th century industrial village center of Hopedale, Massachusetts. Its main focus is the mill complex of the Draper Company at Hopedale and Freedom Streets; the district includes much of northern Hopedale, extending along Dutcher and Freedom Streets, and including the mill pond. It extends to the south just beyond Mendon Street, including properties on that street from the Milford line west to Hopedale Cemetery. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The district has been included as part of the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park.
The Baldwinville Village Historic District encompasses the historic elements of the village of Baldwinville, a 19th-century mill village in northern Templeton, Massachusetts. Although its industrial elements have largely been lost, the district retains period housing and civic buildings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
The Spencer Town Center Historic District encompasses the historic downtown of Spencer, Massachusetts. When first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, the district covered 250 acres (100 ha) centered on Main Street between High and North Streets. A major expansion, the East Main Street – Cherry Street Historic District, added 45 acres (18 ha) of a predominantly residential area east of the center. The district was expanded twice in 2003, adding residential areas along Grove, Prouty, Pleasant, High, and Main Streets, and industrial areas on Cherry, Wall, and Mechanic Streets, as well as Luther Hill Park. The main period of historic interest is the peak period of Spencer's industrial history in the last quarter of the 19th century, although there are a significant number of properties that predate this period.
The Sterling Center Historic District is a historic district encompassing the central village of Sterling, Massachusetts. The district is roughly bounded by Meetinghouse Hill and Main, Maple and Kendall Hill, Boulding, Worcester and Princeton Street. The town common, which is the focal point of the district, was laid out in 1724, when the area was still part of Lancaster. The area includes 18th- and 19th-century houses, as well as several church buildings, and the 1835 town hall.
The Hatfield Center Historic District encompasses the traditional center of Hatfield, Massachusetts. The area, first laid out in 1661, is bounded by Maple Street to the south, the Connecticut River to the east, Day Avenue and School Street to the north, and the Mill River to the west. The area's layout and land use patterns are relatively little altered since they were laid out, leaving a well-preserved early colonial village landscape. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
Indian Hill-North Village is a residential historic district encompassing the largest planned worker housing community in Worcester, Massachusetts. Located in the suburban northern part of the city, it was developed in the 1910s by the Norton Company, then the city's largest employer. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The Mechanics' Hall District is a historic district encompassing a city block of downtown Worcester, Massachusetts, United States that preserves its late 19th-century appearance. It is located on Main Street between Exchange and Foster Streets, and includes the Worcester Five Cents Savings Bank building and Mechanics Hall. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Elias Carter (1781-1864) was an American architect whose first church design, at Brimfield, Massachusetts, was completed in 1805. He was born in 1781 to Timothy and Sarah (Walker) Carter in Ward, a village of Auburn, Massachusetts. His father, a builder, died when he was three, and the family moved to Hardwick when his mother remarried, to a farmer there. He followed in his father's profession, working in the American South for a time before returning to central Massachusetts. He was responsible for the construction of a number of churches in central Massachusetts, which an early biographer described as "typical white steepled churches of New England". His most influential design appears to have been the church in Templeton, Massachusetts, which inspired the design of at least two others. He also built houses throughout central Massachusetts, as well as a wing of the Westborough State Hospital, and played a role in the construction of the New Hampshire state insane asylum.
The Olney Cook Artisan Shop is a historic industrial building at 54 Hartford Avenue East in Mendon, Massachusetts. Built in the early 19th century, it is a rare surviving example of an industrial structure built for use in small-scale cottage industry from that period. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. It is now owned by the town.
The Oakham Center Historic District encompasses a portion of the historic town center of Oakham, Massachusetts. Roughly bounded by Coldbrook Rd., Maple St., Barre Rd., and Deacon Allen Drive, the area was formed as a civic center about 1770, with town incorporation following in 1775. It includes a well-preserved variety of early 19th-century residential architecture, as well as the town's Greek Revival Congregational church, and its 1908 library. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.
