Midland is an unincorporated community located in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, United States.
Kentucky, officially the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States and one of the states of the Upper South. Kentucky borders Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio to the north, West Virginia to the northeast, Virginia to the east, Tennessee to the south, and Missouri to the west. U.S. Route 60 is a major east–west United States highway, traveling 2,655 miles (4,273 km) from southwestern Arizona to the Atlantic Ocean coast in Virginia. The highway's eastern terminus is in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where it is known as Pacific Avenue, in the city's Oceanfront resort district at the intersection of 5th Street and Winston-Salem Avenue. Its original western terminus was in Springfield, Missouri; it was then extended to Los Angeles, California, but in 1964, it was truncated to end southwest of Brenda, Arizona, at an interchange with Interstate 10 (I-10) after the US 60 highway designation was removed from California. I-10 replaced US 60 from Beaumont, California, to Arizona, and California State Route 60 (SR 60) replaced US 60 from Los Angeles to Beaumont.

The Lexington Herald-Leader is a newspaper owned by the McClatchy Company and based in Lexington, Kentucky. According to the 1999 Editor & Publisher International Yearbook, the paid circulation of the Herald-Leader is the second largest in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The newspaper has won the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting, the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing, and the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. It had also been a finalist in six other Pulitzer awards in the 22-year period up until its sale in 2006, a record that was unsurpassed by any mid-sized newspaper in the United States during the same time frame.
The Midland Trail, also called the Roosevelt Midland Trail, was a national auto trail spanning the United States from Washington, D.C. west to Los Angeles, California and San Francisco, California. First road signed in 1913, it was one of the first, if not the first, marked transcontinental auto trails in America.
U.S. Route 60 (US 60) runs northwest to southeast across the central and southern portions of West Virginia. It runs from the Kentucky state line at Catlettsburg, Kentucky and Kenova. The road passes through Huntington, Charleston, and White Sulphur Springs. The route exits the state into Virginia concurrently with Interstate 64 east of White Sulphur Springs. Most of US 60's route through West Virginia is part of and even signed in several areas as the Midland Trail.
Chester Allen Wynne was an American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head coach at Midland College–now known as Midland University–in Fremont, Nebraska (1922), Creighton University (1923–1929), Auburn University (1930–1933), and the University of Kentucky (1934–1937), compiling a career college football record of 81–60–9. Wynne was born in Long Island, Kansas. He played fullback at the University of Notre Dame from 1919 to 1921 and professionally for the Rochester Jeffersons of the National Football League (NFL) in 1922. At Auburn, Wynne tallied a 22–15–2 record, including a 9–0–1 mark in 1932, when his team won the Southern Conference title. He then coached at the Kentucky where he compiled a 20–19 record At Kentucky, he also served as athletic director from 1933 to 1938. Wynne died on July 17, 1967 at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois.
James Edwards Cantrill was elected the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky serving from 1879 to 1883 under Governor Luke P. Blackburn. He also served as a circuit court judge starting in 1892, and in 1898 was elected to the Court of Appeals bench.
Rockdale is an unincorporated community in Boyd County, Kentucky, United States, located south of Ashland. It is located on Midland Trail at its intersection of Kentucky Route 538 and corridor into the city of Ashland. It was mostly a rural area until the 1970s, when a large subdivision began development, with several hundred tract houses.
