Minet Country Park is a 36-hectare park on Springfield Road, Hayes in the London Borough of Hillingdon; it is situated between the A312 (Hayes by-pass) and the Uxbridge Road.

History

Awarded a Green Flag for the first time in 2009, Minet Country Park was opened to the public in 2003. The park was originally part of the Coldharbour Estate, owned by the Minet family from 1766 to the mid-twentieth century. [2]

Flora and fauna

The country park is a mosaic of habitats, connected by a network of hedges, waterways and grassland corridors, which are home to numerous species of wild plants, birds and insects. It is part of the 'Yeading Brook, Minet CP and Hith' Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, Grade I. [3] [4]

Facilities and features

On site is a children's play area, meadows, and hedgerows with ponds and mature oaks. There are picnic areas with tables, a network of footpaths, benches and a car park.

Hillingdon Cycle Circuit is part of Minet Country Park and can be used free of charge by the public.

All pedestrian entrances have wheelchair- and pushchair-friendly gates.

River Crane, London

The River Crane, a tributary of the Thames, runs 8.5 miles (13.6 km) in Middlesex, England. It is in effect the lower course of the Yeading Brook. It adjoins or bisects three London boroughs: Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond upon Thames. The drainage basin is heavily urbanised but many of the Hayes to Whitton flood-meadows have been conserved, forming a narrow, green vale, opening out to what remains of Hounslow Heath in the centre – a near-continuous belt of semi-natural habitat.

London Wildlife Trust English nature conservation charity

London Wildlife Trust (LWT), founded in 1981, is a local nature conservation charity for Greater London. It is one of 46 members of the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts, each of which is a local nature conservation charity for its area. The Trust aims to protect London's wildlife and wild spaces, and it manages over 40 nature reserves in Greater London. One of its campaigns is to turn London's gardens into mini-nature reserves, and it provides education services for schools. Local groups work on reserves and organise walks.

A312 road

The A312 is an A road in England, running across west London from Hampton to Harrow. Its status varies from a local urban street to a major dual carriageway in Hayes. Part the road has been diverted to make way for Heathrow Airport, while another stretch was originally planned to be Ringway 3, one of four major ring motorways around London.

Yeading Brook

Yeading Brook is the dominant source of the River Crane, in outer North West then West London. It flows 25.8 km (16.0 mi) south. It rises in the far south of suburban Pinner and drains all of the western suburbs of Harrow, insofar as they have not been by historical practice connected into sewers.

Hillingdon Cycle Circuit is a purpose-built road cycling circuit situated in Minet Country Park, Hayes in west London. The 0.93 mile long, 6 metre wide circuit is used for year-round racing, training and leisure riding.

Lake Farm Country Park

Lake Farm Country Park is an expanse of green belt land approximately 60 acres in size fringed by trees and the Grand Union Canal, situated in the south of Hayes in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Its formal status as a country park dates back to September 2002.

Cranebank

Cranebank is a Local Nature Reserve on the east bank of the River Crane in Hatton in the London Borough of Hounslow. It is owned and managed by Hounslow Council. It is also part of The Crane Corridor Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation.

Northolt Manor

Northolt Manor is a 1.8 hectare scheduled monument, local nature reserve and Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, Grade II, in Northolt in the London Borough of Ealing. It is owned and managed by Ealing Council.

Gutteridge Wood and Meadows is a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) in Yeading in the London Borough of Hillingdon, which is owned by Hillingdon Council and managed by the London Wildlife Trust (LWT). Yeading Brook Meadows is a 17 hectare Local Nature Reserve (LNR) in Yeading in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is owned by Hillingdon Council and managed by the London Wildlife Trust (LWT). In the north it adjoins Ten Acre Wood across the Golden Bridge and Charville Lane; it then stretches south along the banks of the Yeading Brook to Yeading Lane. The reserve is also part of the Yeading Brook Meadows Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation, which includes two neighbouring LNRs managed by the London Wildlife Trust, Ten Acre Wood and Gutteridge Wood and Meadows.

Park Road Pond

Park Road Pond is a pond in Uxbridge in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is managed as a nature reserve by the London Wildlife Trust (LWT), and is a Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, Grade I.
