Miramichi River Valley is an incorporated rural community in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. It was formed through the 2023 New Brunswick local governance reforms.

Miramichi River Valley was incorporated on January 1, 2023. [1]

Government

Miramichi River Valley residents are able to cast votes in the rural community's elections. The community is within the federal electoral district of Miramichi-Grand Lake, and within the provincial electoral district of Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin.

Economy

Miramichi River Valley's economy was once tied to the forest industry. A large sawmill that employed 200 workers had been operated in the village by industrial conglomerate UPM Kymmene, but it closed in 2007 as a result of economic pressures.

Miramichi River Valley is home to a single financial institution, Blackville Credit Union. It is the oldest of its kind in New Brunswick.[ citation needed ]

Education

Blackville School, grades K - 12, is a public school in the community. This is the only grade school in Miramichi River Valley, with students occasionally transporting to other Miramichi schools instead (Such as Miramichi Valley High School).

Renous-Quarryville was a Canadian local service district in Northumberland County, New Brunswick, located 25 mi upstream of Miramichi, situated where the Renous River, and the Indiantown brook. discharges into the Southwest Miramichi River. It was named for the Renous river, and settlement, as well as Quarryville's quarry, hence the name "Renous-Quarryville local service district." It is now part of the incorporated rural community of Miramichi River Valley.

Miramichi Valley High School is one of two public, English language high schools in the city of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. It serves principally residents from the north side of the Miramichi River, both from the city of Miramichi, and smaller communities distributed from Tabusintac in the east, to Upper Blackville in the west. The school opened its doors in January 1972 to students in grades 10–12, with Charles Hubbard as principal. In 1994 grade 9 classes were added. The school's mascot is Samoo the Pulamoo a boxing Salmon.
