NHL 08 is a video game released on September 11, 2007 in North America; the Xbox 360 version was supposed to be released on the same date as the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 versions, [1] but was postponed for a day due to shipping issues.[ citation needed ] This was the first installment to be released on the PlayStation 3.

Gameplay

NHL 08 features a new and improved "Skill Stick System," which EA says will allow gamers to more easily control the puck. [2] NHL 08 also includes "Goalie Mode," where users can control their team's goalie with a new third-person camera. Another new feature is the ability to create custom plays, where you can take part in creating custom plays in practice mode.

Gameplay modes

'Dynasty Mode' allows users to create a dream team and play through to the Stanley Cup, however, there is no fantasy draft on the current generation version of the game (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3), only on the PC and PlayStation 2 versions.

The game features the-then 29 teams of the American Hockey League (AHL). [3] Players can develop talent through the AHL, and then call up their prospects to play in the NHL. Every AHL team is fully playable. [4] Sweden's Elitserien and Finland's SM-liiga are also included on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation. However, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) and Czech Extraliga are only to be found on the PC and PlayStation 2 versions.

Reception

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions received "favorable" reviews, while the PlayStation 2 and PC versions received "mixed or average reviews", according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. [5] [6] [7] [8]

Games for Windows: The Official Magazine gave it a score of five out of ten. [9] The game won GameSpot's "Best Sports Game of 2007" award.[ citation needed ]

During the 11th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, NHL 08 received a nomination for "Sports Game of the Year" by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. [10]

Legacy

NHL 08 was included in EA Sports 08 Collection in 2008 along with Madden NFL 08 , Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 , FIFA 08 and NBA Live 08 . [29]

It is the 19th installment in the Madden NFL video game franchise. It features Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young on the cover; San Diego Chargers defensive end Luis Castillo was the cover athlete for the Spanish-language version. This was the first Madden game made for 11 different platforms, it was released on August 14, 2007, for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, Xbox, GameCube and Microsoft Windows. There was also a version for Mac released on September 1, 2007. This was the last version of Madden to be released for Microsoft Windows until Madden NFL 19, and the last video game for the GameCube produced and released in North America.

NHL 12 is an ice hockey video game developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports. The game was featured in the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Steven Stamkos was announced as the game's cover athlete on June 22, 2011, at the NHL Awards Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The game notably includes more interactive goalies, better physics engine, improved Be a Pro mode, and the ability to play the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. Along with several other new EA Sports titles, NHL 12 was made available three days prior the official release dates to purchasers of the EA Sports Season Ticket, a new digital program allowing users with a PlayStation 3 and/or an Xbox 360 to download and test the full version of new EA Sports titles for a three-day trial period by paying an annual fee of $24.99 or 2,000 Microsoft points. Users who pre-ordered the retail version of the game may have received a code for a goalie boost pack, which improves certain parts of the player's goalie in the "Be a Pro" mode. Gary Thorne (play-by-play) and Bill Clement (color) return to provide commentary for NHL 12. For the first time since NHL 96, this series featured Winnipeg Jets who relocated as Atlanta Thrashers in the summer of that year.
