Newtown is an area of the town of New Mills in the High Peak borough of Derbyshire, England. It is situated west of New Mills proper, on the road to Disley. The county boundary between Cheshire and Derbyshire divides the area between the two counties. It entirely originally formed part of the parish of Disley and the county of Cheshire, and most of it became part of Derbyshire under the Local Government Act 1888 and on 31 December 1894 Newtown became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 1934 the parish was abolished and merged with New Mills. In 1931 the parish had a population of 1421.
The River Allen in north Cornwall is one of two rivers in Cornwall which share this name. In this case the name is the result of a mistake made in 1888 by Ordnance Survey, replacing the name Layne with Allen which is the old name for the lower reaches of the Camel. The other River Allen runs through Truro.
