Nicut was originally named Vrona; its post office changed its name on December 16, 1925. It was named for a "nigh cut", or shortcut, on the road to Muldrow. The community's post office closed on November 30, 1954. [4]
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the community has an area of 16.299 square miles (42.21 km2); 16.181 square miles (41.91 km2) of its area is land, and 0.118 square miles (0.31 km2) is water. [3]

Sequoyah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2020 census, the population was 39,281. The county seat is Sallisaw. Sequoyah County was created in 1907 when Oklahoma became a state. It was named after Sequoyah, who created the Cherokee syllabary and its written language.
