Oliver "Oli" Oakes (born 11 January 1988) is a British former racing driver, entrepreneur and team principal and director of Hitech GP. [1] In July 2024 he was announced as Alpine F1 Team Principal for the remainder of the 2024 season onwards. [2] He was the 2005 World Karting champion, [3] and was once a part of the Red Bull Junior Team.
Oakes moved into team management when he set up his first karting team in 2011 before launching junior single-seater racing team Hitech GP in 2015. [4]
Oakes was born 11 January 1988, the son of Billy Oakes, the founder and owner of the former Formula Renault and British F3 team Eurotek Motorsport. He was educated at King's Ely. [5] He began karting at age 4.
Beginning his racing career in karting, Oakes was twice British Open Champion [6] at the age of 12. His karting career ended after winning the Karting World Championship in 2005 at 17 years of age. [3] [7] His performances saw him attract the attention of the Red Bull Young Driver Programme, alongside Formula 1 graduates Sebastian Vettel, Brendon Hartley, Jaime Alguersuari and Sébastien Buemi.[ citation needed ]
Moving to car racing in 2006, Oakes debuted in Formula BMW with Carlin Motorsport, where he took pole and the victory in his first race. [7] Further claiming 3 podiums and a string of strong results, he finished the season in 6th overall in the Formula BMW UK Championship. [8] He was nominated for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award. [9]
In 2007, Oakes joined Motopark for the 2007 Formula Renault Eurocup season in which he finished 12th. [7]
Oakes joined Eurotek Motorsport to compete in the British Formula 3 Championship in 2008, taking pole position at the final round at Donington. [7] [10]
He moved to Carlin Motorsport for his 2009 campaign, [11] but left after two rounds. [12] Oakes took up test-driver roles for the rest of 2009 and raced in the GP3 Series in 2010 for Atech CRS, finishing 28th in the championship. [13]
Since 2010 Oakes has been involved in various team roles [4] whilst maintaining an ongoing affiliation with Tony Kart. [14]
Team Oakes is a karting team and management service founded in 2011. Former drivers include Callum Ilott, [15] [16] Marcus Armstrong, [17] [18] [19] Nikita Mazepin [16] and Clement Novalak. [20] [16] Team Oakes have competed in WSK Championship Events, the German DKM Series and the CIK-FIA World and European Championships. [21] [15] [22]
Hitech GP was formed in early 2015 with David Hayle who previously formed Hitech Racing in 2003. Hitech currently competes in the FIA Formula 2, [23] FIA Formula 3 [24] and F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA [25] as well as managing the racing operations of W Series [26] and the FIA Motorsport Games. [27]
Oakes was announced as the Team Principal of Alpine F1 Team following the departure of Bruno Famin in August 2024. He will lead the team for the rest of the 2024 season and 2025 Formula One World Championship. [28] He achieved his first podium, and Team Enstone's first double podium since 2013, at the 2024 São Paulo Grand Prix.

Marko Asmer is an Estonian racing driver, who won the British Formula 3 Championship title in 2007. Asmer is also the first Estonian to test a Formula One car, having tested for the Williams BMW team in 2003, after just half a season of car racing in British Formula Ford. Asmer's father is a former racing driver Toivo Asmer, who was Estonian Minister of Regional Affairs between 1999 and 2003.
Hitech or Hitech Grand Prix is a British motor racing team. It was founded in 2015 by Oliver Oakes, separate to but reviving the name of a previous team, Hitech Racing, run by Dennis Rushen and David Hayle from 2002-2014. Currently, Hitech competes in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, FIA Formula 3 Championship, GB3 Championship, F4 British Championship, and in 2025 will enter F1 Academy and Formula Winter Series.
Prema Racing, previously known as Prema Powerteam, is an Italian motorsport team. It operates in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship as well as various junior championships. In 2022 the team made its FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series entries, beginning the efforts in the endurance racing. The team was founded in 1983 and is located in Grisignano di Zocco, in the Veneto region. Prema has been a talent pool for several Formula 1 junior programs: from Toyota and Renault in the early days; to Alpine, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, and Williams in recent years. For 2023, the team will enter nine championships, fielding a total of 28 drivers. Prema is also set to participate in the IndyCar Series from 2025.
Ben George Barnicoat is a British racing driver. He is a Lexus Racing USA factory racing driver, making his IMSA Sportscar Championship debut in 2022. He claimed the GTD Pro championship title when he returned for a second season with Lexus and Vasser Sullivan Racing, scoring nine podium finishes on his way to securing a maiden IMSA title for him and Lexus.
Niko Kari is a Finnish former racing driver who last raced in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Jenzer Motorsport. He won his first single-seater championship, the 2015 SMP F4 Championship, in his debut year in car racing and is a former member of the Red Bull Junior Team.
Enaam Ahmed is a Pakistani and British racing driver. He most recently competed in the 2023 Indy NXT driving for Cape Motorsports. Ahmed previously competed in the 2022 Indy Pro 2000 Championship driving for Juncos Hollinger Racing and previously drove for RP Motorsport in the 2021 season.
Nikita Dmitryevich Mazepin is a Russian racing driver and motorsport executive, who most recently competed under a neutral flag in the 2023–24 Asian Le Mans Series for 99 Racing. Mazepin competed in Formula One in 2021.
Anthoine Gérard Pol Hubert was a French professional racing driver. He was the 2018 GP3 Series champion and a member of the Renault Sport Academy. He died following an accident during the feature race of the 2019 Spa-Francorchamps Formula 2 round at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Jüri Vips is an Estonian racing driver. He competes part-time in the NTT IndyCar Series with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, driving the No. 75 Honda-Dallara. He has previously driven in both the FIA Formula 2 Championship and FIA Formula 3 Championship, and was formerly a part of the Red Bull Junior Team. He was the 2017 ADAC Formula 4 champion.
Logan Hunter Sargeant is an American racing driver, who is contracted to compete in the 2025 European Le Mans Series for IDEC Sport. Sargeant most recently competed in Formula One from 2023 to 2024.
The 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship was the eleventh season of the third-tier of Formula One feeder championship and also second season under the moniker of FIA Formula 3 Championship, a multi-event motor racing championship for single-seat open-wheel formula racing cars. The championship featured drivers competing in 3.4-litre Formula 3 racing cars which conformed to the technical regulations, or formula, of the championship. It ran in support of the Formula 1 World Championship and its sister series, Formula 2, serving as the third tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway.

Gabriele Minì is an Italian racing driver set to compete in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship with Prema Racing. He is the 2020 Italian F4 Champion, and was runner-up during the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship and the 2024 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Isack Alexandre Hadjar is a French and Algerian racing driver, who is contracted to compete under the French flag in Formula One for Racing Bulls.
