Petroleuciscus is a genus of four species of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae. It was usually included in Leuciscus until recently. This genus unites the Ponto-Caspian chubs and daces. Recent research has indicated that Petroleuciscus esfahani is probably a synonym of Alburnus doriae . [1]
Cypriniformes is an order of ray-finned fish, which includes many families and genera of cyprinid fish, such as barbs, gobies, loaches, botias, and minnows. Cypriniformes is an “order-within-an-order”, placed under the superorder Ostariophysi—which is also made up of cyprinid, ostariophysin fishes. The order contains 11-12 families, over 400 genera, and more than 4,250 named species; new species are regularly described, and new genera are recognized frequently. Cyprinids are most diverse in South and Southeast Asia, but are entirely absent from Australia and South America. At 112 years old, the longest-lived cypriniform fish documented is the bigmouth buffalo.
Leuciscus is a genus of fish belonging to the family Cyprinidae. They are inland water fishes commonly called Eurasian daces. The genus is widespread from Europe to Siberia. Species broadly distributed in Europe include the common dace Leuciscus leuciscus and the ide L. idus.
Telestes is a genus of cyprinid fish. It was formerly usually included in Leuciscus.
Alburnoides is a genus of cyprinid fishes native to Europe and Asia. Many species are known as riffle minnows or spirlins.
Alburnus is a genus of fish in the family Cyprinidae, the carps and minnows. They are known commonly as bleaks. A group of species in the genus is known as shemayas. The genus occurs in the western Palearctic realm, and the center of diversity is in Turkey.
Chondrostoma is a genus of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae. They are commonly known as nases, although this term is also used locally to denote particular species, most frequently the common nase . The common name refers to the protruding upper jaw of these fishes; it is derived from the German term Nase 'nose'.
Petroleuciscus smyrnaeus, also known as the Izmir chub or Smyrna chub, is a species of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae. It is found in Greece and Turkey. Its natural habitat is rivers. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Pseudophoxinus is a genus of fish in the family Cyprinidae found in Western Asia.
Semotilus is the genus of creek chubs, ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae. The term "creek chub" is sometimes used for individual species, particularly the common creek chub, S. atromaculatus. The creek chub species of minnows can grow from 6 to 10 inches. They can be found in the United States and Canada in any small stream or creek. They hide under small rocks for protection. They have a small black spot on the dorsal fin for easy identification.
Squalius is a genus of fish in the family Cyprinidae found in Europe and Asia. Hybridization is not rare in the Cyprinidae, including this genus. S. alburnoides is known to be of ancient hybrid origin, with the paternal lineage deriving from a prehistoric species related to Anaecypris; the latter mated with ancestral S. pyrenaicus. Present-day S. alburnoides mates with sympatric congeners of other species.
The Antalya bleak is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Alburnus. It is endemic to Turkey and is commonly found in schools in clear, vegetated fresh water.
Alburnus doriae is a species of cyprinid fish from Iran. It was previously thought to be restricted to central Iran, but recent research shows that it is more widespread and that Alburnus amirkabiri and Petroleuciscus esfahani are probably synonyms of Alburnus doriae.
The Mossul bleak is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Alburnus. However, a recent study found that Alburnus mossulensis was probably a synonym of Alburnus sellal.
The Sellal bleak is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Alburnus. It can be found in the drainage basins of the Queiq River and the Tigris–Euphrates river system in Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. A recent study has found that Alburnus mossulensis was probably a synonym of Alburnus sellal.
Leuciscinae is a subfamily of the freshwater fish family Cyprinidae, which contains the true minnows.
Squalius janae, commonly known as the Istrian chub, is a species of freshwater fish in the carp family Cyprinidae. It was first described in 2010 from the Dragonja River drainage in Slovenia. Since then they have also been found in the Boljunčica and Pazinčica river drainages in Istria, Croatia.
Squalius squalus, commonly known as the Italian chub, or the chubius chub or cavedano, is a species of freshwater fish in the carp family Cyprinidae. It is native to southeastern Europe being found in Italy, Switzerland and the former Yugoslavia.
Leucos is a genus of fishes in the family Cyprinidae, from Southern Europe. They are carp close to the genus Rutilus, and were only recently taxonomically distinguished from that genus.
Amirkabir's bleak is a species of freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae, endemic to Iran. Recent research has indicated that A. amirkabiri is probably a synonym of Alburnus doriae.
Petroleuciscus esfahani is a species of cyprinid freshwater fish from Iran. It is size of about 10 cm.
