Priscilla Chan (born February 24, 1985) is an American pediatrician and philanthropist. She is married to the co-founder and CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. Born and raised in Massachusetts, she attended Harvard University for undergrad and received her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). In December 2015, Chan and Zuckerberg pledged to donate 99 percent of their Facebook shares, valued at $45 billion, to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a political action company that focuses on health and education. As of 2016, they have pledged more than $4.6 billion to charities.

On February 24, 1985, Chan was born in Braintree, Massachusetts, [2] and grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. Her parents were Hoa Chinese refugees who fled Vietnam in refugee boats. [3] [4] She grew up speaking Cantonese and served as an interpreter for her grandparents. She has two younger sisters. [5] In 2003, she graduated as class valedictorian from Quincy High School, and was voted "class genius" by her classmates. [5] According to a Facebook post by Mark Zuckerberg, Chan is a Buddhist. [6]
Braintree, officially the Town of Braintree, is a suburban New England city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Although officially known as a town, Braintree adopted a municipal charter, effective 2008, with a mayor-council form of government, and is considered a city under Massachusetts law. Chan entered Harvard University in 2003, where she met and began dating Mark Zuckerberg. She graduated in 2007 with a BA in biology, and also studied Spanish. He said he felt confident that the risk of miscarrying was low so far into the pregnancy, after Chan had already had three miscarriages. Miscarriage, also known as spontaneous abortion and pregnancy loss, is the natural death of an embryo or fetus before it is able to survive independently. Some use the cutoff of 20 weeks of gestation, after which fetal death is known as a stillbirth. The most common symptom of a miscarriage is vaginal bleeding with or without pain. Sadness, anxiety and guilt often occur afterwards. Tissue and clot-like material may leave the uterus and pass through and out of the vagina. When a woman keeps having miscarriages, infertility is present.
Zuckerberg and Chan have pledged about $4.6 billion to charities, [13] including a donation of $75 million to San Francisco General Hospital, where Chan worked. Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (SFGH) is a public hospital in San Francisco, California under the purview of the city's Department of Public Health. It serves as the only Level I Trauma Center for the 1.5 million residents of San Francisco and northern San Mateo County.
