"Chorthippus" group parallelus

Pseudochorthippus [1] [2] is a genus of grasshoppers] in the tribe Gomphocerini. [3] Insects including the 'meadow grasshopper' were previously placed in the genus Chorthippus , but are now placed here in species group parallelus(Zetterstedt, 1821). Species have been recorded from Western Europe, throughout temperate Asia and North America. [3]

In biology, a tribe is a taxonomic rank above genus, but below family and subfamily. It is sometimes subdivided into subtribes. By convention, all taxonomic ranks above genus are capitalized, including both tribe and subtribe.

Gomphocerini is a tribe of grasshoppers of the family Acrididae.

Chorthippus genus of insects

Chorthippus is a large genus of acridid grasshoppers with around 190 described species. The genus may be subdivided into subgenera including: Altichorthippus, Chorthippus and Glyptobothrus, with other species not placed.

Species

Pseudochorthippus includes the species: [3]

Pseudochorthippus curtipennis, known generally as marsh meadow grasshopper, is a species of slant-faced grasshopper in the family Acrididae. Other common names include the meadow grasshopper and short-winged brown grasshopper. It is found in North America.

Pseudochorthippus montanus species of insect

Pseudochorthippus montanus is a species belonging to the family Acrididae, tribe Gomphocerini. It is found across the Palearctic. In Europe, the northern distribution border passes through northern France, the Benelux countries and northern Scandinavia. The south boundary is the Pyrenees and French Central Massif, the south edge of the central Alps, the Apennines to in the northern part of the Balkan Peninsula and from Romania to Mongolia and Manchuria. The species is widespread in Central and Eastern Europe, even at low altitudes. It occurs in the Alps 370–2480 meters above sea level on. In Asia, the range extends to Siberia extends north to Verkhoyansk, the Altai and Kamchatka.

Pseudochorthippus parallelus common species of grasshopper

Pseudochorthippus parallelus, the meadow grasshopper, is a common species of grasshopper in the tribe Gomphocerini. It is found in non-arid grasslands throughout the well vegetated areas of Europe and some adjoining areas of Asia. It is a well-studied organism in the discipline of Evolutionary biology and was an early and important model system for the study of European phylogeography.

Acrididae Family of grasshoppers in the suborder Caelifera

The Acrididae are the predominant family of grasshoppers, comprising some 10,000 of the 11,000 species of the entire suborder Caelifera. The Acrididae are best known because all locusts are of the Acrididae. The subfamily Oedipodinae is sometimes classified as a distinct family Oedipodidae in the superfamily Acridoidea. Acrididae grasshoppers are characterized by relatively short and stout antennae, and tympana on the side of the first abdominal segment.

Conocephalus fuscus species of insect

Conocephalus fuscus, the long-winged conehead, is a member of the family Tettigoniidae, the bush-crickets and katydids. This bush-cricket is native to the British Isles where it may confused with the short-winged conehead. These two species are phenotypically similar; however, the distinguishing factor between the two is the fully developed set of wings the long-winged conehead possesses that allows for flight. In the short-winged coneheads the hind wings are shorter than the abdomen, causing the wings to be vestigial and the species is incapable of flight. For this reason it is hard to discriminate between the two species during the early stages of their life cycle before the wings have fully developed. The colouration of the conehead is typically a grass green with a distinctive brown stripe down its back, though there are some brown phenotypes.
