Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) was founded in 1959 as Surrey Naturalists' Trust and it is one of forty-six wildlife trusts covering Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Alderney. SWT carries out conservation activities on a considerable area of Surrey County Council's large countryside estate and also manages land on behalf of the Ministry of Defence estate. As of 2022 the SWT manages more than 6,000 hectares of land for wildlife and employs more than 100 staff. It had an income of £5.1 million and expenditure of £5.7 million.
The Great North Wood was a natural oak woodland that started three miles (4.8 km) south-east of central London and scaled the Norwood Ridge. At its full extent, the wood's boundaries stretched almost as far as Croydon and as far north as Camberwell. It had occasional landownings as large clearings, well-established by the Middle Ages such as the hamlets of Penge and Dulwich.
Sheepleas is a 99.9-hectare (247-acre) biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Guildford in Surrey. It is a Geological Conservation Review site and a Local Nature Reserve. It is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Oak Hill Wood is a 10-hectare Local Nature Reserve (LNR) and a Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation Grade I, in East Barnet, London. It is owned by the London Borough of Barnet, and part of it is a 5.5-hectare nature reserve managed by the London Wildlife Trust.
New Cross Gate Cutting or Brockley Nature Reserve is a 4.2 hectare nature reserve in Brockley in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation managed by the London Wildlife Trust. This designated green space runs alongside the East London Line between Brockley and New Cross Gate, on the forest site that once lay on the Kent and Surrey border known as Hatcham Wood. The entrance is on Vesta Road situated between Barriedale in Brockley and Sandbourne Road, Telegraph Hill.
Pryor's Wood is an 8.7-hectare (21-acre) nature reserve in Great Ashby, near Stevenage in Hertfordshire. It was formerly managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust (HMWT). In February 2016 HMWT announced that three sites, Barkway Chalk Pit, Hill End Pit and Pryor's Wood, which HMWT managed on behalf of their owner, North Hertfordshire District Council, were to return to Council management as the Trust was no longer able to meet the cost.
Stockbury Hill Wood is a 5-hectare (12-acre) nature reserve near Stockbury, north-east of Maidstone in Kent. It is managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust.
Chinthurst Hill is a 17.2-hectare (43-acre) Local Nature Reserve south of Guildford in Surrey. It is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust. Chinthurst Hill Tower is a Grade II Scheduled Monument.
Kitchen Copse is a 7-hectare (17-acre) nature reserve north of Bletchingley in Surrey. It is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Broadstreet, Backside and Rydes Commons is a 158-hectare (390-acre) nature reserve in Wood Street Village in Surrey. It is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Deepdene Terrace is a 4-hectare (9.9-acre) nature reserve south-east of Dorking in Surrey. It is owned by Mole Valley District Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Glory Wood and Devil's Den is a 13-hectare (32-acre) nature reserve south-east of Dorking in Surrey. It is owned by Mole Valley District Council, and was managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust until 1 April 2019. There is a bowl barrow dating to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age in Glory Wood.
Ledgers Wood is a 7-hectare (17-acre) nature reserve in Chelsham in Surrey. It is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Milford Green and Coxhill Green is a 15-hectare (37-acre) nature reserve south-east of Chobham in Surrey. It is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Nower Wood is a 33-hectare (82-acre) nature reserve south-west of Leatherhead in Surrey. It is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Tilburstow Hill is a 9-hectare (22-acre) nature reserve south-east of Godstone in Surrey. It is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Wallis Wood is a 14-hectare (35-acre) nature reserve south-east of Ewhurst in Surrey. It is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Wotton and Abinger Commons is a 324-hectare (800-acre) nature reserve south-west of Dorking in Surrey. It is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. Part of it is in Leith Hill Site of Special Scientific Interest
Farncombe Wood is a 1-hectare (2.5-acre) nature reserve in Farncombe in Surrey. It is owned and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Middlebriars Wood is a 1-hectare (2.5-acre) nature reserve in Hurtmore, west of Farncombe in Surrey. It is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
