Modern sources define skyscrapers as being at least 100 meters (330 ft) or 150 meters (490 ft) in height,though there is no universally accepted definition,other than being very tall high-rise buildings. Historically,the term first referred to buildings with between 10 and 20 stories when these types of buildings began to be constructed in the 1880s. Skyscrapers may host offices,hotels,residential spaces,and retail spaces.
Moshe Safdie is an architect,urban planner,educator,theorist,and author. He is known for incorporating principles of socially responsible design throughout his six-decade career. His projects include cultural,educational,and civic institutions;neighborhoods and public parks;housing;mixed-use urban centers;airports;and master plans for existing communities and entirely new cities in the Americas,the Middle East,and Asia. Safdie is most identified with designing Marina Bay Sands and Jewel Changi Airport,as well as his debut project Habitat 67,which was originally conceived as his thesis at McGill University. He holds legal citizenship in Israel,Canada,and the United States.

Urban skyways very often take the form of enclosed or covered footbridges that protect pedestrians from the weather. Open-top modern skyways in mountains now often have glass bottoms. Sometimes enclosed urban skywalks are made almost totally from glass,including ceilings,walls and floors. Also,some urban skyways function strictly as linear parks designed for walking.

The Chongqing World Financial Center,also known as Global Financial Building is a late-modernist supertall skyscraper in Chongqing,China. The 339-meter (1,112 ft)-tall office tower contain 79 floors. The skyscraper was first proposed in 2007 and broke ground in 2010. Construction of the glass and steel-building was completed in 2014. Upon completion,it was the tallest building in Chongqing,and has been surpassed by the Chongqing International Trade and Commerce Center in 2017.

Altair is a residential and commercial development under construction in Colombo,Sri Lanka. The building has a 68-floor vertical tower and 63 floor leaning or sloping tower. At 240.0 m (787 ft),the building will be one of the tallest buildings in Colombo when it is completed. The building is situated on the banks of the Beira Lake on a 2-acre plot of land leased by the Urban Development Authority of Sri Lanka to the Developer Indocean Developers. Development was halted for five years,and then restarted in 2020. The first phase of the building opened in March 2021.
The International Land-Sea Center is a 98 storey,458.2 m (1,503 ft) tall mixed use skyscraper under construction in Chongqing,China. The tower is the main building for the Chongqing International Trade and Commerce Center,an 11 tower development that is the centerpiece of the 3.6 million-square-meter Chongqing Tian Di Master Plan,a major redevelopment of a downtown core area in Chongqing. The tower's design is inspired by the sailing ships that once crowded the waters of the surrounding Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. Upon completion it will become the tallest building in Chongqing,and one of the tallest buildings in China.

The Copper are a pair of luxury residential skyscrapers in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The buildings were developed by JDS Development and were designed by SHoP Architects with interiors by SHoP and K&Co. The buildings are one of several major collaborations between JDS and SHoP;others include 111 West 57th Street,also in Manhattan,and The Brooklyn Tower in Brooklyn.
