Rayagada railway station (Station Code:- RGDA) serves Rayagada district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is one of the 3 railway divisions of East Coast Railway and an important railway station of Southern Odisha. Here 58 trains arrive and departure and this station has direct route to more than 15 states and also well connected to all the Metropolitan Cities of India . The station is located at the heart of the city and now it has the longest platform in Odisha (Platform No :- 3 measuring 910m), the 6th in the country and the 7th longest in the world.

History

The 79 km (49 mi) Vizianagaram–Parvatipuram line was opened in 1908–09 and an extension to Salur was built in 1913. The Parvatipuram–Raipur line was completed in December 1931. [1]

The Koraput–Rayagada Rail Link Project was completed on 31 December 1998. [2]

Paper mill

J. K. Organisation operates a paper mill near Rayagada. [3]

Rayagada railway station has a double-bedded non-AC retiring room and a six-bedded dormitory. [4]

The Jharsuguda–Vizianagaram line is a railway line in eastern India. It connects Jharsuguda,516 km (321 mi) from Howrah on the Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai line, and Titlagarh, which in turn is connected with Vizianagaram, 820 km (510 mi) from Howrah on the Howrah–Chennai main line, and Raipur Junction, 830 km (516 mi) from Howrah on the Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai line. Hirakhand Express is a daily express train which runs between Jagdalpur and Bhubaneswar. It was initially introduced between Sambalpur and Balangir. This train has seen several extension on both the ends and now running in a completely different route than its initial station of origin. First it was extended to run between Rourkela and Titlagarh, then between Rourkela and Rayagada, then between Rourkela and Bhubaneswar via Vijayanagaram but after completion of the Koraput-Rayagada link line connecting Jharsuguda-Vizianagaram line with Kothavalasa-Kirandul line, it was diverted to run between Koraput to Bhubaneswar. In 2010, it was further extended until Jagdalpur. It is operated by the East Coast Railway Zone of Indian Railways.
