"Release Me" is a song by the Belgian band Hooverphonic. It would have represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. [1] The song was released as a digital download on 17 February 2020.

Eurovision Song Contest

The song would have represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, after Hooverphonic was internally selected by the national broadcaster VRT. On 28 January 2020, a special allocation draw was held which placed each country into one of the two semi-finals, as well as which half of the show they would perform in. Belgium was placed into the first semi-final, to be held on 12 May 2020, and was scheduled to perform in the second half of the show.

Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest

Belgium has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 61 times since making its debut as one of seven countries at the first contest in 1956. The only countries with more appearances are Germany (63), France (62) and the United Kingdom (62). Belgium have been absent only three times in total, in 1994, 1997 and 2001, due to low scores in the previous contests that relegated them from the contest. Belgium has won the contest once, in 1986.

Belgium participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, with Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT) having selected the 52nd Belgian entry for Eurovision. Tom Dice was selected by VRT to represent Belgium at the Contest, held in Oslo, Norway in May 2010, performed the song "Me and My Guitar", written by Dice, Jeroen Swinnen and Ashley Hickin. It ended 1st in the Semi-final 1, and brought Belgium's first ever qualification since the introduction of semi-finals. The song placed 6th in the grand final, marking the first top 10 result for Belgium since 2003, and also at the time became the most successful entry brought by VRT since the introduction of semi-finals.

Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "City Lights", written by Pierre Dumoulin and Ellie Delvaux (Blanche). The song was performed by Blanche, who was selected by the Belgian broadcaster Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française (RTBF) on 22 November 2016 to represent the nation at the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. "City Lights" was internally selected as the song Blanche would perform at Eurovision and later premiered on 8 March 2017.

Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Sennek was internally selected by the Belgian broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT) on 28 September 2017 to represent the nation at the 2018 contest in Lisbon.

Czech Republic participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The Czech broadcaster Česká televize (ČT) organised a national final in order to select the Czech entry for the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal. The winning entry was the song Lie to Me performed by Mikolas Josef, which represented the country in Lisbon.

It was written by Hänni, Laurell Barker, Frazer Mac, Jenson Vaughan, Jon Hällgren, and Lukas Hällgren, while production was helmed by the latter two. It was released for digital download as a single on 8 March 2019. "She Got Me" represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv.
