Colonel (retired) Robert (Bob) Nnaemeka Akonobi was appointed military governor of Anambra State,Nigeria,from December 1987 to August 1990 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. [1]
On 27 June 1988,Akonobi reconstituted the board of Nigeria Mineral Water Industries,empowering it turn the company into a profitable private venture. [2]
In 1989,he established the Anambra State Oil Palm Development Agency. [3]
He officially commissioned the Anambra State University of Technology Teaching Hospital,since renamed the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital,on 19 July 1991. [4]
Akonobi was entangled in the struggle between the Wawa (Anambra North) and Ijekebee (Anambra South) groups,which reached its peak in a bloodbath at Nkpor junction in 1983. [5]
In a controversial book titled Akonobi Brothers and Sisters (ABS),a later governor of Anambra State Christian Onoh accused Akonobi of using his position to acquire property in Enugu. [6]
Onoh,who owned 510 undeveloped lots of land,described "monumental corruption" and said the Akonobi brothers had stolen huge amounts of Federal funds. Akonibi denied the allegations. [7]
After the restoration of democracy with the Nigerian Fourth Republic,Akonobi joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became a force in Anambra State politics. In 2002,he was coordinator of President Olusegun Obasanjo's Campaign Organization in Anambra State for the 2003 elections. [8]
He became a member of the New Anambra Elders Forum,set up after a political crisis that followed the 2003 elections. [9]
In February 2008 Akonobi's home in Enugu was destroyed by fire. [10]

Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Awka,fondly called UNIZIK, is a federal university in Nigeria. It consists of two campuses in Anambra State. Its main campus is in Awka,while its other campus is in Nnewi. There are also other campuses of Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Awka. These include Agulu in Anaocha local government area and Ifite-Ogwuari in Ayamelum local government area in Anambra State. This makes Nnamdi Azikiwe University to operate in the three Senatorial Districts in Anambra State,Nigeria having Awka campus,in Anambra Central Senatorial District,Nnewi in Anambra South Senatorial District and Ifite-Ogwuari in Anambra North Senatorial District,respectively.
Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo,was a Nigerian politician,philosopher,academic,writer and political scientist. He served as the 8th president of the Nigerian Senate from 1999 to 2000. Sometimes referred to as Oyi of Oyi in reference to his local government council area (Oyi),he held numerous political positions in the Nigeria government and was known to have opposed the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party,which was led by President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba,is a Nigerian politician who served as Senator for the Anambra South Senatorial District of Anambra State from 2011 to 2019. Uba also won the 2007 Anambra State gubernatorial election on the platform of the People's Democratic Party but was declared unduly elected by the Supreme Court of Nigeria a month later. The 1979 Anambra State gubernatorial election occurred on July 28,1979. NPP's Jim Nwobodo won election for a first term to become Anambra State's first executive governor by defeating NPN's Christian Onoh,his closest contestant to win the contest.
Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh is a Nigerian Politician and Professor of Applied Geophysics who has served as the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Awka since 2024. He was the Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government from 2015 to 2018. He also was the gubernatorial nominee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Ebonyi State in 2023.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital is a federal government of Nigeria teaching hospital located in Nnewi, Anambra state. The current chief medical director is Joseph Ugboaja.
