Katsina State(Hausa:Jihar Katsina) is a state in the northwestern geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Katsina State was created in 1987,when it split from Kaduna State. Today,Katsina State borders Kaduna,Zamfara,Kano,and Jigawa States. Nicknamed the "Home of Hospitality",both the state capital and the town of Daura have been described "ancient seats of Islamic culture and learning" in Nigeria.

The 2011 Katsina State gubernatorial election occurred on 26 April 2011. PDP candidate Ibrahim Shema won the election,defeating CPC Aminu Bello Masari and 8 other candidates.
The 2023 Katsina State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023,to elect the Governor of Katsina State,concurrent with elections to the Katsina State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Aminu Bello Masari is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Katsina State will be held on 25 February 2023,to elect the 3 federal Senators from Katsina State,one from each of the state's three senatorial districts.
