Idris Garba was the Military Governor of Benue State from 1987 to 1988 and Governor of Kano State from 1989 to 1992. [1]
Idris Garba was born in July 1947 in Gulu,Lapai Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State,Nigeria. He had a secondary education in the Nigerian Military School,Zaria 1963 - 1967.
He entered the Nigerian Defence Academy,Kaduna,and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1968. [1] He attended the following courses: [1]

In 1988,General Ibrahim Babangida appointed him Military Governor of Benue State. He was then appointed governor of Kano State in August 1988,serving until 1992 when he hand-over to civilian Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya in the build up to the Nigerian Third Republic. [2] Col. Idris Garba enacted an edict which repealed previous laws and vested the Kano State Sports Council with the responsibilities of promoting and developing sports in the state. [3]
Adetunji Idowu Ishola Olurin mni was a Nigerian general who served as the military Governor of Oyo State from 1985 to 1988 and Field Commander of ECOMOG Peacekeeping Force in Liberia from 1992 to 1993 during the First Liberian Civil War. Olurin retired from service in 1993,and was a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was administrator of Ekiti State from 19 October 2006 until 27 April 2007.

The 1966 Nigerian Counter-coup was the second of many military coups in Nigeria. It was masterminded by Lt. Colonel Murtala Muhammed and many other northern military officers.
